A buildup of coronavirus in the lungs is likely behind the steep mortality rates seen in the pandemic, a new study finds. The results contrast with previous suspicions that simultaneous infections, such as bacterial pneumonia or overreaction of the body's immune defense system, played major roles in heightened risk of death, the investigators say.
The new study showed that people who died of COVID-19 had on average 10 times the amount of virus, or viral load, in their lower airways as did severely ill patients who survived their illness. Meanwhile, the investigators found no evidence implicating a secondary bacterial infection as the cause of the deaths.
Current guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he notes, do not encourage use of antivirals such as remdesivir for severely ill patients on mechanical ventilation. But Sulaiman says the study results suggest that these medications may still remain a valuable tool in treating these patients.
Despite previous concerns that the virus may prompt the immune system to attack the body's own lung tissue and lead to dangerous levels of inflammation, the investigators found no evidence that this was a major contributor to COVID-19 deaths in the group studied.
Among the findings, the study revealed that those who died had on average 50 percent lower production of a type of immune chemical that targets the coronavirus compared with the COVID-19 patients who survived the illness. These customized proteins are part of the body's adaptive immune system, a subset of cells and chemicals that "remember" invading newly encountered microbes, leaving the body better prepared for future exposure.
"These results suggest that a problem with the adaptive immune system is preventing it from effectively combating the coronavirus," says study senior author Leopoldo Segal, MD.

Try to stop the replication of what made it through.
Thankfully I havent had to deal with the third one yet.
There is absolutely no way I can put iodine in my eyes despite some eye doctors saying diluted iodine is okay. So I just wash them out.
There was a good interview the other night I listened to - doc treating early ... I was impressed. When the interviewer brought up Remdesivir & said it ‘doesn’t work’, the doc said that Remdesivir is useful ... IF given early, because it is an antiviral. Currently, Remdesivir is given late (he said around 15 days) and only in hospital, at which point it doesn’t do any good.

But Remdesivir costs 3,000 X what Ivermectin or Hydrochloroquine costs! It has to work that much better!
Remdesivir is EXPENSIVE, not to mention that the people using it are already hospitalized. Shouldn’t the CDC then support it (for that reason)?
What?!??!? Not an overreaction of the immune system? You mean it is not the dreaded cytokine storm? But idiots have been fearing cytokine storms for over a year. What will they fear now? It isn’t right depriving them of things to be afraid of.
I went in the hospital with covid pneumonia two weeks ago. The day and day after I was exposed I played sax for two hours on stage and sucked that virus deep in my lungs. A week later and after five days of fevers, my oxygen levels were in the high 70s so we went to the emergency room. I was given Remdesivir for five straight days. I never had to go on the ventilator thank God. I honestly think the doctors at this somewhat liberal city hospital treated me better and gave me treatment because I had had the Johnson and Johnson shot back in May. I am now home recovering on oxygen and I can’t handle any exertion because my o2 levels drop still. So I’m home waiting for my lungs to heal … which is a slow process it turns out. That is my story. You can all take from it what you will. I feel lucky to still be alive when i read the stories of people who did t make it.

Everything the ignorant, lying fools at the CDC have done since day one has only made everything worse. You would be better off getting medical guidance from a magic 8 ball, at least there is a chance of it being right occasionally unlike the CDC.
