SACRAMENTO, Calif. — With fires raging across the state, the USDA Forest Service is closing all 20 million acres of California’s national forests to public access for two weeks beginning Tuesday.
In an announcement Monday, the Forest Service said the closure will extend through at least Sept. 17.
This closure starts at noon Tuesday.
Those caught entering Forest Service lands — including developed campgrounds, hiking trails and recreation sites — face fines of up to $5,000 for violating the order.
The announcement extends a closure that was already in place for the Forest Service’s nine national forests in Northern California.

Yup! South Lake Tahoe mandatory evac started yesterday and there’s a high wind warning until tomorrow night. Gonna be real ugly. There is plenty of terrain that is impossible to work for the fire crews. This fire is less than 15% contained and the winds will probably lower that number. We were up to the lake last Saturday night near Incline Village(north east side for those that don’t know) and the smoke was pretty heavy then. This morning in Reno the AQI is pretty decent at 74. Was over 350 last week and probably be climbing again fairly quickly.
Boy, those environmentalists sure are great at taking care of the environment…
Stay away from California. The left has ruined it, made it a hell hole.
And these are the areas where mostly conservatives live such as myself. I wonder how a lot of these fires start? Lightening and accidents are understandable but arson should be a capital offense.
Looking at at the cams in South Lake Tahoe, there is zero traffic moving about. Looks like most folks took the evac orders and left. Sadly, probably some miscreants willing to take advantage stared behind to do some looting while folks are gone. Some looting in the Lassen/Plumas areas during the Dixie fire up there. Over 750K acres on that one.
IIRC an arrest was made in relation to the CALDOR fire? Pretty sure I read that someplace. So far I haven’t seen the professor charged in the Dixie fire. Smaller nearby yes but not the main fire.
Well, some fires have been started by people, mostly leftist TWOTs. Kinda like most mass shooters are leftists.
Destruction and murder seem to be part of their profile, much more than others.
Complete with fire, water shortage and everything
Good idea. Let people stay out of the way while Mother Nature makes the forests less flammable.
One of the perps was some whore in a bikini. She had set several fires.
The other was some fag antifa type who also taught classes in college. He taught law enforcement, IIRC.
I like Tahoe. Took my kids skiing at Heavenly. Etc. It's a shame.
“Stay away from California. The left has ruined it, made it a hell hole.”
California and NYC have ruined Colorado.
I was in Lake Tahoe as a kid.
I’ll never forget a raccoon knocked on our door, I opened it, and he/she was standing on its hind legs with its front paws together like a human beggar.
Underbrush needs to be cleared, some trees removed, and allow controlled burns to happen.
Native Americans were aggressive in their land and animal management.
They didn’t just smoke pot and sing songs like hippies.
Fascists....
Mismanaging the forests for 50 years.
The Sac Bee would write articles about it.
The radicals were pantheists. It was a New Age thing. They believe spirits are in trees, rocks, etc. They think that "Nature" is sacred and must be preserved, however chaotic.
They believe, (and the Bee reported it; I was amazed) that it's preferable to lose a million acres of trees from fire caused by lightening than to lose an acre of trees from logging. Insane. We're talking "need to be lobotomized" insane.
Plus they had unlimited funding from ....... somewhere. Every time there was some commonsense solution to a problem (clearing dead trees and secondary growth), they would tie it up in federal court for so long that it became impractical.
The problem with California is ......... californians.
The problem with Oregon is ........ californians.
The problem with Washington ........
The evidence is undeniable, the “mismanagement” is deliberate.
I lived in San Jose as a child from 76-85.
It was an awesome place to be a kid.
I wouldn’t go back to even visit now.
It’s a shame, it’s a beautiful state physically.
In two hours I could be standing in Fisherman's Wharf, in summer, wearing a jacket and eating clam chowder out of a sourdough bowl.
Or, in those same two hours I could be fishing and camping in the Sierras. Etc.

If you look at a map of Lake Tahoe you will notice there is only one main road that circles the lake. It would be very easy for a fire to envelope an area with no way to escape (except perhaps by boat).
So the smart ones left when they first warned of the danger.
