The Phillies are once again in the mix with the Mets for the division, but it’s almost impossible to imagine this year’s team lifting a finger to help anyone. Marcus Hayes reported a few weeks ago that about half of the 2021 Phillies were vaccinated, a jaw-droppingly pathetic number that meant the Phillies lagged behind essentially every other team in Major League Baseball. For this piece, The Inquirer emailed the Phillies asking for an updated percentage of team members who are vaccinated. A representative told us it’s higher than 50% but would not disclose the number.
As Matt Gelb wrote in the Athletic: “… there is a contingent of Phillies players who have hardline stances against taking the vaccine no matter how much management encourages the shot.”

Those right wing extremist Phillies have delusions that they own their own bodies.
They need to learn they are slaves.
All previous research show that people who are against the vaccine are equally on the left and the right.
Just following the lead of Biden and the dems...
Agreed—I am mocking the mass media types who squawk “right wing extremist” whenever they hear something they don’t like.
Sports writers are part of the MSM. Fans, players, owners don’t matter. Everything is drafted to support the establishment narrative.
These are wealthy pro athletes that are out of touch with the game. When you see a team with a team batting average of ,237, an on base percentage of .316, no one on the team hitting over .291, and a team ERA of 4.39 with a half game over .500, you are not going to find a player there that is anywhere close to the worth for the money they are getting as only six people that have played for them this year have a salary under $1M. which includes all the people replacing hurt ones and the regular rotation folks that moved from AAA briefly to roster up particular needs of the big club.
The highest paid is Bryce Harper who is currently hitting .290 with 23 hr and 53 rbi’s. His salary is at $25.5 million before incentives, a year.
Their best pitcher, Zack Wheeler, is one game over .500 and has the most wins on the staff at 10 . He makes a little over $22 million before incentives.
They have a team fielding percentage of .983 which plces them 11th of the 15 national league teams.
This isn’t a baseball team. They’re scam artist draining the public’s pockets with media hypes and gimmicks. And about the onlk thing that can be positive is there are worse teams. Not many, but some.

Do they play some kind of sport or something?
Neither, according to the Ken Burns’ series, did the Philadelphia A’s.
Nice analysis if a little off topic. Can’t disagree with anything you said.
It’s a philly thing ... stupidest fans on earth wildly supporting the worst teams on earth ... until the end ...
Marcus Hayes has always been a complete lefty douche. The “vaccine” angle is an asinine argument but I agree the Harper bonanza was a complete gimmick. They are far from smelling the playoffs anytime soon.
The Milwaukee Brewers are well over the mlb mandate for vaccination percentage and spent most of late July to mid august scrambling for players because their roster was decimated by vaccinated players who tested positive for covid. Didn’t keep them from winning…next man up and lead NL Central.
This guys whole premise is pathetic, but then completely expected from a jack ass philly writer.
Interesting analysis
Neither do the Baltimore Orioles.
Yep. Everyone in PA is born with the knowledge that the Phillies don’t want to win. It’s a given.
