An initial autopsy has revealed few clues in the mystery of what happened to a California family found dead on a hiking trail in the Sierra National Forest south of Yosemite.
John Gerrish, Ellen Chung and their 1-year-old daughter Miju — as well as their family dog — were found dead at the Devil's Gulch
Investigators said the deaths do not appear intentional, and they did not find a suicide note or any signs indicating premeditation.
Last month, the Forest Service cautioned on Facebook that people should avoid drinking or swimming in the Merced River due to the presence of toxic algae; unhealthy algae blooms are not uncommon in warm months in California bodies of water.
Toxicology results are expected in two to three weeks. A necropsy is also being conducted on the dog.

The African case was CO2 poisoning around the lake due to a “burp” of sequestered gases.
Idiots, although the wife is beautiful but that's just my yellow fever talking.
I had to collect a victim who was killed by lightning once. That leaves a mark, a BIG mark! He was still smoking...
Some sort of burp of toxic gas from the earth, water etc…probably heavier than air and they were in a depression etc…
umm everybody in the mountains here has FRS... 14 mile range and more....covid 19 vaccine killed them...
Thats why it`s called Devil`s Gulch...we got one here too called Devil`s Kitchen and NOBODY goes in there, NOBODY...warnings from 300 years ago already....from the Iroquois and the Dutch......
Sasquatch breathed on them...
The lake that killed the villagers has a volcanic release of CO2.
__”MY question is, Who the F takes their 1 YEAR OLD on a hike?”
We did!
Many years as a rock and ice climber, you usually hike a day or so to get to the climbing area.
Also, winter camping for ice climbing, the kids went with.
And when a bit older, three and five we did a fourteener, just a walk-up not technical.
Our daughter was a cell tower rescue instructor and worker, our son just returned from climbing in Idaho.
I wuz in that area lookin for gold years back and it is very very spooky..always bring a couple people artmed 44 Ruger n or 2 or 3 and a big big dog coz of people in there will go after you thinkin you wuz pannin for gold in the Merced River tributaries n kill you to git some gold nuggets ..or they gonna rob you? did these people still have their wallets -purse when found???
Actually, I think that is the most likely explanation. Some type of poison. He took it himself after killing the rest. We will have to wait for the Toxicology report.
However, could have been instantaneous COVID - Tau variant. Kills in 13 seconds after exposure.
That is reasonable, but you would think they would look for an entrance and exit wound. Having said that, I have seen a person killed by a touching a powerline. Unless the EMT showed me what to look for, I would have missed it.
Some dogs, usually small ignorant ones, eat poisonous shrooms and die. It happens often here in Northern CA anyway. Not saying that’s what happened in this case.
Close to the mark concerning drinking water, probably from a canteen.
One or the other adult had some sick reason to take out the family.
Now I suspect poison gases from the algae. (Which might be the blue-green algae known to be poisonous). An entire African village was once suffocated by a nearby lake’s ======================================================
I am reminded of that great Sherlock Holmes line in one of the novels.
It was the dog that didn’t bark.
It is more than a coincidence that all died at the same time with the same appearance of no wounds.
Regardless of all the touching romantic photos of the two, one of them poisoned everyone including themselves. Whether it was the deed of one sick person or a mutual agreement between the two, we will never know....if my suspicion is proved.
But the idea that a baby, a dog, a small woman and a big guy all dropped dead instantly in the same spot at the same time is not a coincidence.
As for poison in the air...where were all of the buzzards feeding off all of the dead wild animals? If poisoned air killed the dog, you can bet the area will also contain dead animals of all sorts.
FRS is useless in the mountains unless you’re on a mountain peak. Between the mountains you’re screwed. You want reliable in the mountains, go with HF 40 or 80 meters.
Or 2 meters if repeaters are near.
Contact the local museum...There may be a reason it was called Devils Gulch.
Prolly keep us both a!ive.
So which is better - Jefferson Airplane or Crosby, Stills, and Nash?
