Brand-new 'Jeopardy!' host calls it quits amid controversy

What is a quitter? Mike Richards — the recently announced new host of “Jeopardy!” — has already bailed on the gig amid ongoing controversy about his problematic history of sexist language and lawsuits.

He announced his departure in a bombshell memo dropped Friday on the beloved game show’s production staff.

“[Sony Pictures Television] will now resume the search for a permanent syndicated host,” Richards, 46, revealed in the resignation letter. “In the meantime, we will be bringing back guest hosts to continue production for the new season, details of which will be announced next week.”

A spokesperson for Sony TV told The Post: “We support Mike’s decision to step down as host. We were surprised this week to learn of Mike’s 2013/2014 podcast and the offensive language he used in the past. We have spoken with him about our concerns and our expectations moving forward.”

...

The now-married father of two referred to then co-host and former assistant Beth Triffon as a “booth ho,” “booth slut” and “boothstitute,” and asked her about her “booby pictures” on her phone, The Ringer first reported, quoting episodes that have now been yanked from the web.

The Burbank, Calif. native also labeled Triffon’s friends “really frumpy and overweight,” saying “they look fat and not good,” while also declaring that women “dress like a hooker” on Halloween.

The outlet said it reviewed all 41 episodes after news broke that Richards was accused in lawsuits of harassing TV models, which he recently insisted did “not reflect the reality of who I am.

BTW, social media’s darling, LeVar Burton, did not do a good job as guest host. I don’t think I could stand to watch it if he’s picked unless he miraculously became a million times better.

Disagree with you all. I found Burton extremely annoying with his Reading-Rainbow sing-song voice. He’s a drama queen with his earrings and flashy clothing.

Jeopardy should be about the contestants and the material. The host’s personality shouldn’t be a distraction.

I very much supported the Mike Richards pick, as he was extremely solid in a non-distracting way that let the contestants and the material shine.

Alex was the closest to Hugh Downs, and those two are irreplaceable Yes, I have been watching Jeopardy for a very long time. Used to take lunch at a local pub so our college bowl team could ‘participate’ in Jeopardy. It was great mental exercise.

They ought to put the show in mothball for the next few years to give it a break. Currently, no one seems to be acceptable. They are going to kill the show if they keep going like this.

Just to hake things up, it would be interesting if they got a dullard that had no clue what the answers were and frequently just stared with goofy expressions. Sort of a cross between Jerry Lewis and Joey Tribiani. MSM news casters are already employed so they would need to branch out.

So the executive producer let his ego get in the way of selecting a credible permanent host. Could there be a better choice? Pretty much any of the other guest host. Somehow he didn’t know his politically incorrect social media posts would come back to haunt him once he took on a more prominent role. That level of stupid belongs in Biden’s cabinet.

The visual problem I have with Burton is that his eyes are very expressive: being wide open and always moving a lot. It's like he's talking with a mask on and trying to have his eyes make up for the rest of his facial expressions being covered up.

Either that or he's trying to have visor-like vision with normal eyesight.

Of the guest hosts, some were bad and some mediocre. Richards was good and an easy choice over all the stars. He spoke well, let the contestants star the show and didn't giggle. Too bad he got nailed for his history.

while also declaring that women “dress like a hooker” on Halloween.

Now that's just a fact. How many slutty nurse, slutty teacher, slutty cat or slutty nun costumes are sold?

No white males need apply. Woke nation wanted Levar Burton and was very upset when he was not chosen. Don’t be surprised if he or a woman of color is now given the job.

Totally agree - Burton was deer in the headlights

My favorite was Mayim Bialik and then Mike Richards - I watched them all.

I really liked Robin Roberts too (I always do) but don’t think she wanted to give up her current job.

LeVar Burton was the worst host of all. Shouted, treated contestants like children.
I watched every one of the guest hosts. If they name him, I’ll never watch again.

I liked Aaron Rogers, the football guy. I hate football, but Rogers did a great job on Jeopardy.

He was the ultimate and quintessential gentleman.

Who is Art Fleming? The original host of the original "Jeopardy!".

Those of us who know Alex Trebek from his days with Ruta Lee on "High Rollers" and on "The Wizard of Odds" know he isn't all that.

LeVar Burton was the worst host of all.

This is true. He was a distant last place at that. I watched every episode of the guest hosts and he was pathetic. I liked CNBC business reporter David Faber the best.
