The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you wonโt be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isnโt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
........makes you want a big wedge of it........NOW..........
WOW!!!!!
Aren’t you nice I’ve been getting my animal fix all week at our county youth fair everything, from rabbits to steers, 10 species I ran the Showmanship Sweepstakes, an orchestra of showmanship of those 10 species and showing them the champion showmen from each breed, intermediate and senior. Sadly no mules so Ithaca completes my week. Horses are no substitute.
A PS, during fair week the tomatoes came in heavy. Managed to can and then dehydrate a load of San Marzanos. During the week we both picked early in the morning and the table loaded again. My feet are so sore I can barely move but it was a great week or the kids.
Kale / Ale meme....ha ha!
Cute guy with kale growing skills....also Ha Ha!
Aw! Love the mule!
Mule saying.....”A mule is like a horse, only moreso.”
Very very smart.
Whoa! The flower tree is so cool!
Gorgeous pictures, as always!
Wow! I’ll trade all my kale for that! ๐
Beautiful ๐

Strawberry Cream Puffs filled with vanilla custard and whipped cream mixed with chopped sweetened berries from your strawberry patch are a delicious change from shortcake.
Good trade! :-)
It will take a whale
of a bale
of kale to trade for that one male. :-)
Those are beautiful!!
I am harvesting figs at the moment - with the heat we have here in SoCal, they’re all ripening as quickly as possible and I’m trying to give them away.
They are smaller than baseballs but incredibly sweet and seedy (how I like ‘em).
Nothing better than picking a warm fig from the tree and eating it right there!
Those are beautiful pix!
Can you sent the rain our way? (Drought in California).
Hopefully, God will bless us with rain this year (last year 5”, normal 15”).
WOW! Those are some figs! :)
Progress! :)

If you’re going to fish Wisconsin lakes, that’s the perfect place to do it! :)
Thank them for helping to support our Tourism Economy, which took a big hit during Covid. :)
How nice of you! I think one of the best parts of being a ‘Boss Lady’ when I managed the Garden Center was doing nice things for my crew that showed them I cared about them...because I wasn’t allowed to pay them what they deserved. :(
I kept our Break Room freezer stocked with ice cream treats and popsicles all summer long, and when they were selling Christmas Trees in December, there was always hot cocoa and something warm in the Crock Pot for breaks.
One prerequisite to working for me was that you had to either be a good cook or loved to bake, LOL! I had one gal that could make a Taco Dip like nobody’s business.
Treat your staff well and they will treat your customers well. :)
