Disagreed. The Taliban gave safe haven to OBL in the lead up to 9/11. 9/11 was celebrated in a lot of muslim countries outside of SA and Pakistan.

This whole situation is repulsive and embarrassing.
This is no longer about Afghans defending themselves. We are now into Nam II. Democrats cannot afford the slaughter of US personnel on their hands and that’s exactly what’s going to happen. With 3,000 flying in first now and another 3,500 (2 battalions worth) slo Joe is going to get more of our personnel killed.
If the Taliban get within 5 miles of the airport, they can essentially shut it down with ground to air shoulder fired missiles. As LBJ found out in 65’ it took a lot of marines to protect Da Nang. You just can’t protect the base, you have to conduct operations 10-15 miles outside the perimeter.
And if what is left of the afghan army is smart, they’ll help the taliban or flee to some other muzzie craphole.
Wouldn’t that be ironic.
Just like Nam, soldiers will don their uniforms in the streets for Taliban garb and turn tail.

You are almost certainly correct. The New Reichstag Fire on January 6 will be the domestic marker of the fall, and the taking of Kabul will be the foreign marker. Our arrogant oligarchs may, likely will, lose a lot more in the next three years, but Kabul will mark the beginning of the avalanche outside the US.
