If the Taliban get within 5 miles of the airport, they can essentially shut it down with ground to air shoulder fired missiles. As LBJ found out in 65’ it took a lot of marines to protect Da Nang. You just can’t protect the base, you have to conduct operations 10-15 miles outside the perimeter.
I was listening to a General on Bonginos show today. He said it just may be a blood bath. He was actually in country for a tour. Basically he said the same thing about the airport. The bad news is the Taliban were only 30 miles out around noon today.
