... According to Federal Reserve data, the national debt rose by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump's time in office. During that time, Republicans approved a major corporate-tax cut that added $2 trillion to the national debt, a measure many Democrats and economists said favored the wealthiest Americans.
During Trump's tenure, Democrats and Republicans also struck some spending deals to fund the government, while $3 trillion was added to the national debt specifically to combat the COVID-19 pandemic with stimulus packages that provided small-business aid, enhanced unemployment insurance, and direct payments. Economists largely viewed that spending as critical to keeping people and businesses afloat during the crisis.

The GOP passed massive spending bills in 2016, etc. just like the Dems are doing now.
Here is a Rand Paul speech from 2018:
'Intellectual Dishonesty:' Sen. Rand Paul Blasts GOP Over Hypocritical Deficit Spending Under Trump
Unfortunately the critics are right: How can these Republicans complain now when in 2016, 2017, 2018, etc. passed similar bills?
RAND PAUL: "The reason I'm here tonight is to put people on the spot. I want people to feel uncomfortable. I want them to have to answer people at home who said 'How come you were against President Obama's deficits, and then how come you're for Republican deficits?'"
Only Rand and a few others can claim some sort of moral authority on this issue.
Most other Republicans complaining now were part of the problem back then and are acting....
I think a new party is inevitable. A party that is socially and fiscally conservative. It’s either that, or we turn into Venezuela.
check out this video
or a GOP headed by those who warned and voted against the spending no matter who was in charge...
At the moment things are upside down, in my opinion
Does Biden realize that Pelosi intentionally refused to submit a balanced budget while Trump was in office?
It would have been 16 trillion under the Hildebeest. And the nation would be still locked down in full, with unemployment in the 20% range.
Tax cuts don’t add to the debt....spending does...more “journalist” shilling for the Dems.
That being said I wish PDJT would have proposed at least one balanced budget. Deficit spending was his weakest area IMHO.
There hasn’t been a balanced budget since Clinton. Neither the Dems or Repubs give one crap about controlling spending
GOP controlled Congress in 2016-2818 and Paul Ryan (yuck) was Speaker.
This is what Rand is complaining about in the video: a 1700 page spending bill no one read
This is the Uniparty in action. I think that is a better description.
I realize only so much Trump can do because it’s largely a Congress problem. He signed the bills though...
I agree. It has come down to “who will bankrupt America quicker”
Sad really.
They will have to get the house in order soon or face the consequences.
My problem is that the leadership on both sides are hypocrites.
A Speaker McCarthy, or leader Mitch McConnell etc. will do nothing and should not be anywhere near power again.
What about when he and Obama doubled the debt of the entire history of the U.S. before their Administration?
This is all propaganda. Rand Paul amuses the elites who run the show. BOTH parties enrich themselves through porkulus bills. BOTH parties have families and partners enmeshed in endless NGOs and corporate entities which directly benefit from the trillions, with very little “fixing” America’s crumbling “infrustructure” or dealing with “COVID.”
Something needs to change.
I think we can agree that with McCarthy/McConnell nothing will really happen.
Let's say a rich owns American Widget and his Widgets sell for $1, Joe. Now, you raise the rich tax 10%, do you think he will keep his widget at $1? No, he'll pass the tax info the customers, so he'll raise the prices 10%, so it will be $1.10. If the Widget is used in another part - lets say Widget2 - sold for $2, the rich will raise his price on Widget2. And so on until the consumer buys the end product.
That is a simple one, Joe, since it doesn't factor in increases of raw materials, transportation, wages (especially if the business has to pay more than the government pays for people to stay home!) and other cost of doing business. I didn't want to confuse you, Joe...
There are legit reasons to criticize Trump. This is one of them.
Biden and his party are just a batch of pathetic irrational repugnant reprobates who have no clue how to govern let have and room to slam anyone.
While all this is true, the goal of democrats is to create more poor, not to help the poor. More poor equals more people dependent upon government handouts. That equals more democrat voters.
Dependency upon government is the goal, with dependency comes control. That's why democrats want to destroy the middle class, they can't control them.
