Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 has had positive results in South Africa, the co-head of a trial, Glenda Gray, told reporters Friday.
A research study conducted from mid-February to May with upwards of 470,000 health workers showed positive results in those inoculated, and the country’s health regulator approved the single-shot J&J vaccine in Apri. It is being used in addition to Pfizer's.
The study showed 91% to 96.2% protection against death, Gray said, and 67% efficacy against infection when the beta coronavirus dominated and 71% when the delta variant did.
As of Thursday, more than 8.3 million people had been vaccinated in South Africa.
Worldwide, about 4.3 billion people have been vaccinated.
Despite the introduction of new COVID-19 vaccines in recent months, however, the virus continues to spread across all parts of the world, primarily the highly contagious Delta variant, infecting a growing number of people and triggering a new round of strict social restrictions and lockdowns.
More than 20 months after the first cases were detected in Wuhan, China, the COVID-19 global pandemic has far surpassed 200 million total confirmed infections, including 4.2 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data released Friday.
The United States tops the list with more than 35 million cases, including at least 600,000 deaths, followed by India, Brazil, France and Russia.
Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Olympics organizers report 29 new Games-related coronavirus cases.
Information from the Associated Press and Reuters was used in this report.
Trump said most elites have Pfizer ties
These vaxes all has a percent effectiveness. Based on that, why would anyone be surprised if a vaccinated person got sick, or even died? It’s always been baked into the cake.
Maybe the propaganda machine can only deliver simple messages, and they get crossed up on a concept like this, which the stupid masses could never understand.
Then why are people getting the mutations in all the over-vaxxed countries?
“The study showed 91% to 96.2% protection against death, Gray said, and 67% efficacy against infection when the beta coronavirus dominated and 71% when the delta variant did.”
I would prefer to be in the control group, where the protection against death exceeds 98%.
That number strikes me as a wild exaggeration. But I suppose if they count the Chinese vaccines...
I guess they are trying to get American blacks to take the vax.
Wow, they tested it for what 3-6 months and decide it’s “safe”?
No thanks.
My son had to get vaxed because his job requires entry into our countries. He held off as long as possible. He has and continues to travels internationally Thru the pandemic and never got sick. Not even a cold.
He chose the J&J. He’s ok. It’s been about a month. I still pray there are no long term problems.
I certainly wouldn’t count the Chinese vaccines for anything. They’re garbage. In the absolute best case scenario, they’re no better than 50% effective. The real number (particularly with the Delta variant) is likely much lower.
Every country that went with China’s vaccines has regretted it, and that includes China. China is now working on deploying the Pfizer mRNA vaccine to their own people, having witnessed first-hand what an absolute failure their vaccines are.
It appears that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is the most successful of them all.
while you may be correct there is no SWAB test for delta, the rest of the sentence is: biolabs are able to sequence the virus and determine which variant is in circulation based on markers. We’re not cavemen after all (well most of us aren’t)
It’s a shame JJ’s rollout was delayed. It was shown early on that it was probably the most effective against delta. Waiting for access was frustrating.
and without “vaccine”jab it’s 94-99+% survival rate depending oon how old you are/other health factors.
Why on earth are people choosing a lesser protection against death by getting jabbed?
