The rapidly escalating surge in COVID-19 infections across the U.S. has caused a shortage of nurses and other front-line staff in virus hotspots that can no longer keep up with the flood of unvaccinated patients and are losing workers to burnout and lucrative out-of-state temporary gigs.
Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana all have more people hospitalized with COVID-19 than any other point in the pandemic, and nursing staff is being stretched thin.

The article says the nurses are burned out and can make more money elsewhere.
At least at my local suburban hospital, about 30 - 40 minutes from Washington and Baltimore, the nursing shortage is real. They’re managing, but they’re stretched pretty thin.
I was a patient here in 2015, and I was just released last Monday after nearly 4 weeks of killing ‘ronas. A lot has changed.
You can argue the REASONS for the shortages all day long (and I could add my own observations), but at least here, in our little suburb, the shortage is real.
Reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. Who is going to believe any of these bastards in the future.
Oh bull shit.
You people live on Bizzaro World.
The staff is just getting overwhelmed with the sudden increase in numbers.
We have a number of staff on vacation. It’s Summer you idiots.
And that includes omitting vaccines from the Cause of Death certificates.
Oh, puhlease. More BS. No thanks.
We should never doubt these reports. After all, hospital spokespersons never lie...
I wonder what the citizenship status of these patients is.
There are not many lights on at night and not all of the air-conditioning chillers run during the daytime. That means most of the building is shut down with neither staff or patients inside.
We should never doubt these reports. After all, hospital spokespersons never lie...
And, whenever the media reports the “news”, we can all rest assured they would never make it up...
B.S.
Must have hit a nerve. Take a break Karen and relax.
Retired RN, here. Too big a patient to nurse ratio is a big problem in most hospitals, although once in a while, there are hospitals that believe in decent patient loads for nurses. Even if you throw more money at us, it doesn’t prevent burnout from having to care for too many patients. ICU’s used to give nurses 1-2 patients, depending on how severe their condition. And when they tried to give them more, the nurses would revolt. Don’t know what the status is nowadays.
Oh Noes!!
I’m sorry but I do not believe ANY article or individual that tells me that a surge exists.
During the previous “surge”, my wife had elective knee surgery very early this year and was in the hospital for about 48 hrs. This was a fairly large 6-story hospital in the major metropolitan area of DFW. About 10:00 PM on the first night, I got hungry and went out for a bite to eat. The floor seemed to be mostly empty of patients and there was only one nurse on duty. My wife and I seemed to be the only patients on the floor. I was surprised since the news was packed with stories of death and mayhem from the Covid-19 virus. As I got to the door of the hospital, I was surprised to find out that it was locked and I couldn’t get out. They didn’t have the need for hospital personnel since there weren’t very many patients. I searched the first and second floors for almost an hour looking for someone, anyone, to tell me how to get out of the hospital. Finally I found a janitor sitting down having a sandwich and he stated that I had to go to the Emergency Room to get out of the hospital (btw, the janitor didn’t have the keys to the exit door). The nurse in the Emergency Room wouldn’t let me through the “employee door” and said I would have to go around (which meant I had to go outside and then come back in). Thanks for nothing. Having not been able to find an unlocked door to the hospital, I exited through an emergency exit door that sounded a silent alarm at which point someone actually showed up in the lobby. I was free from the hospital that was “over run” by Covid patients.
Since my wife was asleep and I was curious as to the state of the hospital, I drove around the parking lot and counted the number of cars ... 6! Six cars on a Saturday night at a large hospital in DFW.
I’m not buying this Surge crap anymore. It might be true in some instances, but I won’t believe it unless I see it.
I see your post upsets the Virus Fear porn crowd .
The truth is inconvenient to the BS being peddled non stop .
Do you post about anything besides Covid?
And "regular" people don't want any more lockdowns, they don't want their kids masked, they believe little of what the government, the media and even "medical experts" say anymore ... they truly don't trust them anymore, and although they're fed up with being told what to do by -- well -- by everybody!, many seem too worn out or depressed to fight it... precisely what the Democrat/Communist/Left Party's plan is designed to do!
But we must fight it with everything we've got because it's not going to stop on its own ... tyranny never does; tyrants never do.
