The rapidly escalating surge in COVID-19 infections across the U.S. has caused a shortage of nurses and other front-line staff in virus hotspots that can no longer keep up with the flood of unvaccinated patients and are losing workers to burnout and lucrative out-of-state temporary gigs.
Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana all have more people hospitalized with COVID-19 than any other point in the pandemic, and nursing staff is being stretched thin.

I think I've found the cause. Hospitals that routinely underpay routinely have worker shortages. And hospitals that routinely overwork the little staff they have, routinely have burnout.
I stand corrected ... no arguments from me.
Actually, there are a lot of new/recent RN grads looking for actual RN jobs in the NE and here on the West Coast.
Part of the problem is the lack of general care and health maintenance for the patients the past 500+ days.
My wife needs a hip replaced, and it has taken close to 6 weeks for her to get a phone appt with our big PPO this week. This after a referral by the pain doc, who injected steroids into her lower spine with minimal results. The Pain Doc was basically out of service due to covid. When she got her spinal injections. There was only one patient ahead of her and one after her. In the past, there had been about at least 6 patients receiving the injections.
Friends with so called private care are having even a longer wait time than her to see an orthopedic doctor.

More infections = less nurses??? Don’t think so.
But mandating experimental medical treatments as a requisite of employment, at the same time the government pays people handsomely not to work, that might do it.
One thing I noticed watching the coverage of all of this “surge” BS the past couple weeks: The MSM is using very brief, out of context snippets of quotes from (alleged) health care workers. These are not the people from the PR departments of the hospital systems or health care networks. Often their on-camera quotes are just a few seconds, with the MSH reporter spinning it to suit their narrative.
Unfortunately, so many Americans hear this crap and believe it to be gospel, and then we get this hysteria that just builds on itself.
With special emphasis by the MSM to make it out like the GOP-governors are killing people off by the dozens by resisting mask mandates and business closures.
If the Delta variant infection rates bottom out and turn around, it will be MONTHS before the MSM even suggests that story line.

My wife went out to check a hospital ER by site - not overwhelmed, just the opposite.
Why hasn’t Biden set up temporary hospitals like Trump did ?
Most of our doctors are either ignorant or cowards and are practicing quackery. Early treatment is key to keeping folks out of hospitals. Find one who practices early treatment.

Hospitals around here are losing nurses due to vaccine mandates (i.e., nurses quitting), too.

I expect we'll get a small dose of relief in the next few weeks (e.g., the delta/delta-plus/lamda variants will weaken; mask mandates will again be lifted), followed by the emergence of an even greater horror (e.g., there will be a release of a new gain-of-function virus from the Fauci Wing of the Wuhan lab) that the media will report breathlessly that will further prepare irrationally frightened, irretrievably ignorant and woefully cowardly Americans to accept that the only solution -- a new "final solution" so to speak -- is to accept that the Democrat/Communist/Left Party is our only path to covid salvation.
My wife, She Who Must be Obeyed, is a nurse in a hospital in Little Rock. She told me last evening they are on the way to requiring all the nurses to be vaxxed.
I pretty much agree with your predictions. It is making me sad, because it looks like the rain circling is inevitable now.
