Charlie Watts, the Rolling Stones’ drummer since the group’s inception in 1962, is “unlikely to be available” for the group’s rescheduled U.S. tour this fall. Veteran drummer Steve Jordan, who has worked extensively with Stones co-founder Keith Richards, will fill in.

Watts, who turned 80 in June, recently underwent a “completely successful” medical procedure, according to a statement from the group.

When he was 70 he was still a drum machine with swing.

But 80?

I posted this to make everyone feel as old as I do after reading it.

That’s the thing. Rockers are notorious for dying early. (Or earlier than expected.) But The Stones never seem to quit. And do drummers get carpal tunnel syndrone? If they do, I’ve never heard of it.

That leaves Jagger and Richards.... Wyman has been out for years now.

Keith Richards, who just turned 143, will be on the tour...

A while back I watched a few somewhat recent Charlie watts interviews. The man is old and not even close to the same shape as mick.

He has had quite a go at it and who knows he may tour again.

Jagger and Richards the only original Stones left... Ron Wood joined in ‘74.

OMG! They should have asked Ringo! What a blast THAT would’ve been!

And I’m surprised the rest of the band is going without him.

I love Ringo on his own, but he would not be a good match with the Stones, IMHO. YMMV.

Mick Jagger is about 78 years old, if I recall correctly.

Amazing that he’s close to 80 and still strutting his stuff at a concert.

And its amazing the longevity of the Stones. They have been a major popular group since the 1960s and still are touring in the 2020s. Amazing.

Drummers get beat up pretty good, Phil Collins is a wreck, his son will be drumming for him in the upcoming Genesis tour.

Watts has always been the sensible one, the grounded one.

If he says it’s been a good run but it’s all over now maybe the others should take his cue.

Tendonitis in the forearms is a big issue with drummers. That’s why Neil Peart of Rush called it a day before he even discovered he had cancer - he’d gotten to the point where he said even picking up sticks was agony. He went so far as to sell off or donate every drum kit he had in his house, and never looked back. And Phil Collins of Genesis - he damaged his neck and spine from all the years he played, now he gets around in a wheelchair and sings sitting down. Peter Criss of KISS - he was known for absolutely brutalizing his drum kit, and even as far back at the 70’s, his shoulders and rotator cuffs were all torn up.

Phil Collins has a bad drumming posture that caused all sorts of problems. Probably not carpal tunnel, but much worse.

Yup. Nothing wrong with a Chevy 350, and people put them in everything, but you should never put one into a Mustang.
