Authorities in Utah are sounding the alarm about a weird and worrisome trend wherein people hammock atop power lines. The Weber County Sheriff's Office made note of the unnerving fad in a Facebook post last week, explaining that they have seen a troubling increase in thrill-seekers attempting to pull off the far-from-relaxing feat. The department shared a photo showing two such individuals ascending a power line tower with one of the climbers having already reached a rather nerve-wracking height.
Idiots going to be idiots.
Suits me.... let them fry themselves and have their pictures on Facebook. This is better than doing the vaccine and dying slowly.
Some problems just have a way of solving themselves.
Olympics-level Darwin Award competition?
They deserve whatever befalls them.
The additional problem seems to be that sheriffs have far too much time on their hands if they’re trying to keep idiots from bein’ idiots.
It is called thinning the herd!!!
Somebody has to clean up the mess, I guess.
Reminds me of those shows or YouTube channels where we get treated to example after example of why men live shorter lives than women.
Trying to figure out what the harm is here? Are they damaging the towers?
Josie Wales: Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms.
This is worse than Grizzly man, and that guy won the Darwin award for sure.
Don’t pet the bison.
urbandictionary.com has a couple of rather unsavory definitions of the term “hammocking”, aside from the obvious one.
I once saw a turkey vulture make a mis-step on top of a telephone pole. Big bright flash and it split him in two. And that was just regular electric service.
Charlie Darwin, please pick up the PG&E courtesy line!
Danny: Try not to scrape the third rail, okay? There’s about 600 volts in there.
Ray: It’s not the voltage that gets you. It’s the amps.
Nun: How many amps are there?
Ray: Enough to push a train, and shut up!
Turn loose the drones!
Looks fun!
The idiots who do stuff like this can and should find ways to kill or harm themselves that don’t cause power outages for others.
