Nearly all of the world’s emperor penguin colonies may be pushed to the brink of extinction by 2100, a new study has found, as the United States moves to list them as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
If climate change continues at its current rate, more than 98 percent of emperor penguin colonies are expected to become quasi-extinct by the turn of the century, a group of global researchers wrote in the journal Global Change Biology on Tuesday. The scientists’ near-term predictions were equally grim: They estimated at least two-thirds of colonies would be quasi-extinct by 2050.

That means we will still have 2% to get ready for the next ice age.
None of us alive today will be around to verify this and certainly those fearmongering today won’t be alive to be held accountable when their daft doomsday predictions fail to materialize in 79 years.
are expected to become quasi-extinct...

Quasi-extinct?!
Like The Great Auk
Nobody will be around to bother them in 2100. AOC said we will be extinct less than 10 years from now.
Does this have anything to do with that Mary Poppins movie? They forced them to dance to the point of exhaustion. It was inhumane.
Do they taste like chicken, turkey, duck or goose?
And this makes it the mandatory DAILY article of some species that is doomed because of a supposed 1 degree C or so average temp rise in the next few decades.
Interesting, is it not, all the species that thrived in the many degrees C temp rise we’ve had since the Maunder minimum.
Even more interesting is the virtual 100% failure of ALL of the climate change models/predictions published since around 1950 or so.
I’ve done my own study, and it day people who produce and post this kind of crap are way less intelligent than an Emperor Penguin.
Predicting the Future again are they ? How about some Lotto numbers ?
Suspect the Emperor penguins will still be around when the Washington Post is long gone.
SCIENCE!
Again, ‘studies’ are a dime a dozen these days given the decades long political infestation of the groups and organizations doing the alleged ‘studies’....
but I thought all the ice would be gone by 2010 according the the Goracle...
“virtually all” emperor penguins cannot go extinct, by definition.
The species goes extinct if all emperor penguins die. If some remain the species is not extinct. Individual penguins can die, and lots of individual penguins might die, but individuals and groups of penguins can’t go extinct.
They - enough of them - will adapt.
The genetic ability to adapt (built into LIFE) and the LIFE urge to survive is the rock bed of evolution. Evolution minus a changing world is a non sequitur.
Moment of silence ... RIP. They had a good run ...
