SINGAPORE — Fully vaccinated COVID-19 patients infected with the Delta variant experienced "significantly lower odds" of moderate or severe outcomes, according to a local study.

"Vaccination was associated with lower peak measures of systemic inflammation, fewer symptoms, including more asymptomatic infection, and better clinical outcomes," the study, posted last Saturday (31 July) on medical database medRxiv ahead of peer review, added.

Conducted by researchers across various medical institutions in Singapore, the study analysed 218 patients aged 18 and above who were infected with the Delta variant, which first originated in India, and were admitted across five hospitals or centres.

Of them, 84 had received an mRNA vaccine in Singapore, of whom 71 were fully vaccinated. A total of 130 patients were unvaccinated, while the remaining four received a non-mRNA vaccine overseas.

The study also found that initial Delta viral loads were similar for vaccinated and unvaccinated patients, in contrast to existing studies that showed lower viral load for vaccinated patients.

However, vaccinated patients appeared to clear the viral load at a faster rate, it noted.

The data also suggested that vaccination likely reduces secondary transmission, though the authors of the study stressed that this needs to be further analysed in larger community surveillance studies.

"Further studies should elucidate immunologic features driving vaccine-breakthrough infection to improve vaccine-induced protection," it added.

Since May, the Delta variant has become the dominant variant circulating in Singapore.

Am I reading the study right that vaccination leads to an about 36% decrease in the chance of severe COVID? AOR of 0.73.

Seems like a pretty ineffective vaccine.

boosting your own immune system would likely give you as good or better result than these shots.

I can see maybe the use of shots for people who must supress their immune system, but not for general public like they are increasingly forcing upon the world.

How would they know?

Are they relying on the FKE data from the CDC whose test cannot distinguish between the Common Every Day Flu and COVID-19?

Or they relying on the FAKE data from the hospitals who are ALSO relying on that same FAKE test to report their case numbers?

Or are they relying on the same hospital systems that purposefully lied about the numbers of deaths and cases so they could haul in a load of cash from the federal government?

Or, are the reporting false positive COVID-19 cases because they are purposefully abusing the PCR test with cycles of 30+ which leads to 80%+ false positive COVID-19 results?

Would you explain how you got 36%? The msn.com article tends to give general conclusions rather than precise statistics.

I clicked through to the linked study and found this:

Despite significantly older age in the vaccine breakthrough group, the odds of severe COVID-19 requiring oxygen supplementation was significantly lower following vaccination (adjusted odds ratio 0.07 ....)

So maybe 93% effective? Is that what the 0.07 means?

You are right, a case of tired eyes missing a “0”. I read 0.073 as 0.73.

So with the adjustment/correction what are you trying to say?

I am saying that the study shows that vaxxed were 93% less likely to have severe COVID.

So, this study shows the vax working about as well as, proxalutamide, and a bit better than ivermectin based on numbers in link below.

I got a rapid COVID test yesterday at our Patient First facility (it came back negative). My nurse asked me if I was vaxed. I said no. She said, good because the vaccinated are having a really bad time dealing with this COVID outbreak.

I trust a front line workers over a news report from a government agency any day of the week.
