Sure enough, the United States is again awash in virus, with the incidence of new COVID-19 cases having soared 131 percent in the third week of July. To be clear, the vaccines available work well—especially the Pfizer and Moderna products based on mRNA technology. But it is likely that waning vaccine efficacy, coupled with a stubborn one-fifth of the adult population refusing any immunization, has opened the door for the dangerous mutant delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 to wreak havoc among the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike.
That’s why the United States is going to need a third dose of mRNA vaccines; for the nation’s older population, the triple play is already overdue. “I don’t see the virus just disappearing,” said Stanley Plotkin, considered the godfather of vaccinology. The University of Pennsylvania vaccine inventor and immunologist told me that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should comply with requests from Pfizer, following Israel’s example, and immediately approve third-dose immunization for adults over the age of 60, with general triple dosing for all Americans to follow.
The data from vaccinated Israeli medical staff shows that while breakthrough infections aren’t life-threatening, they are also not benign: 19 percent of cases led to so-called “long-haul COVID-19,” featuring months of difficult symptoms that can include acute fatigue, depression, loss of stamina and muscle strength, brain fog, and other challenging disabilities.
A multinational study of six months’ use of two-dose Pfizer vaccine also found that efficacy wanes with time, from about 97 percent to a low of 86 percent—still robust. But none of the work involved delta variant exposure.

There are so many lies and so much BS in this article that it is simply beyond belief that the Columnist would present it for public consumption.
People who believe the world is grossly overpopulated want us to take experimental vaccines. Right now, and again next year. They won’t tell us what’s in them, and they won’t let us sue the manufacturers if the shots harm us. It is very important to these people that we all take these experimental shots and that we not ask any questions. I wonder why?
Foreign Affairs is a ass. All competent scientists know there is no such thing as “the science.” Science says nothing about anything. It is not a personification of a being. It is an abstract idea. It is scientists who say things, and scientists are a noisy, raucous, disputatious lots who agree on very little.
“Science” would not do a damn thing because science is not an active agency. Some scientist somewhere could do those things.

If memory serves the virus did remain in the prairie dog population. Also I did think he meant disappeared as in go away forever. I forgot it could mean became dormant.

Unfortunately, what I see unfolding here is much scarier that either “side” (pro-vax/anti-vax) is saying. The fear that I have is that the virus will mutate into more virulent strains that would normally die out (via killing the host before it can spread) but instead continue to spread via the vaccinated, until they hit the unvaccinated, with dire consequences.
