Researchers are observing a new long-term health concern in patients hospitalized with COVID-19—an increase in new-onset hyperglycemia lasting months after infection. An Italian study found that about half of the patients admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 during the start of the pandemic had new cases of hyperglycemia, or high levels of blood sugar. They also had poorer outcomes.
"These people were not diabetic before," says lead author Paolo Fiorina, MD, Ph.D. "But during admission, about 46 percent of the patients were found to have new hyperglycemia." While most cases resolved, about 35 percent of the newly hyperglycemic patients remained so at least six months after the infection.
While glucometabolic abnormalities declined over time in some patients—particularly after COVID-19 infection—other issued remained. Many patients had higher post-prandial (after eating) glucose levels and abnormal pancreatic hormones in the post-COVID-19 period.
"This study is one of the first to show that COVID-19 has a direct effect on the pancreas," says Fiorina. "It indicates that the pancreas is another target of the virus affecting not only the acute phase during hospitalization but potentially also the long-term health of these patients."
The study points to the importance of evaluating pancreatic function in patients hospitalized for COVID-19—while in the hospital and over the long term.
In terms of treatment, questions remain about how to care for patients with COVID-19-related glucose abnormalities. Should patients be treated just with an anti-diabetic drug like an insulin sensitizer, or should anti-inflammatory drugs like tocilizumab and other drugs be used?
"If you keep targeting and blocking insulin, but you have a strong and chronic inflammation, it may lead to chronic damage," says Fiorina. "When you consider how many patients have been hospitalized with COVID-19, and continue to be worldwide, we may see a huge increase in the diabetic population."

I can’t see how eating keto could ever cause this same reaction with COVID-19.
Who knows, they say this about hospitalized patients, but we been lied to so much. I honestly wonder if this is a side effect of the vaccine?
Oh for Pete’s sake. they’re just going to blame everything on freakin’ covid. Covid has an over 99% survival rate.
Stop this nonsense NOW !
Speaking of Mountain Dew, are those fat and lazy Texas Democrats still vacationing in D.C.?
Odd. I recently watched a video of a Baltimore whistleblower nurse saying she is shocked at the number of EXPERIMENTAL shot given patients they’re seeing...and, one of the NUMEROUS adverse effects they’re seeing in post “vax” patients is NEW ONSET diabetes.
TPTB trying yo get ahead of that disturbing news, too? 🤔
LOL!
It’s either Covid-19 or Global Warming or perhaps Trump’s fault.
There is no other option.
Covid can attack any organ that has ACE2 receptors. That includes the pancreas.
There’s PubMed/NIH/NCBI studies investigating this that date back to April 2020, long before the vaccines were rolled out.

“ACE2 Expression in Pancreas May Cause Pancreatic Damage After SARS-CoV-2 Infection”
“Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a novel coronavirus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in human beings, has caused a serious public health issue.1 Attention to pancreatic injury is lacking, which may impact patients’ prognosis. In this study, we explored the expression and distribution of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the receptor of SARS-CoV-2, in the pancreas. Combined with clinical data, we showed that pancreatic injury can occur in some COVID-19 patients.”
Diabetes is nothing to laugh about — it is the gate to many other diseases that slowly overtake the human body.
Yep, You can buy a whole lot of Doritos and Mountain Dew with free government money while living rent free.
In CA gyms were closed for a year and a half and people didn’t go for routine doctor visits because doctor offices were also closed.
Perhaps this has something to do with it? We are obese society any way.
Recall reading that ACE1 down-regulators used for treating T2 may cause increased ACE2 expression. If this is true, it could explain why diabetics are prone to the effects of SARS.
Two thoughts:
1) A respiratory virus that attacks the pancreas seems like something that could have been engineered in a Chinese lab.
2) Could be the vaccine instead.
Since more people are sitting around doing nothing I wonder if pneumonia cases have climbed up as well.
When you’re laid up or inactive you really need to cut the carbs almost completely out and understand how carbs are broken down. If only to thwart diabetes later in life. Understanding correct portioning is also important if your waistline is feeling the squeeze.
Steroids are commonly use to treat pneumonitis associated with severe covid.

I think they specifically requested “care packages” containing Dr. Pepper and hard candy.

Ah, so they weren’t doing the dew, they were asking for Dr. pepper. I noticed after this marketing disaster they’ve been quiet the past two days.
Average weight gain during Covid in the US was 29 lbs.
I think that has something to do with this.
