So just a quick vanity on a candidate for a warehouse job today. Said candidate arrives for an I terrier that was not scheduled. What was really interesting is candidate arrives wearing sweat pants, it's 95 degrees in my city today, a hair filled short and best of all fuzzy bathroom slippers!!!
The observation being that the kids today have absolutely zero clue or actual interest in getting a job. I think some of these people are just filling out the interview ticket for their unemployment benefits.
Some others this week have shown zero respect for my time as they've shown up over an hour ahead of time and expect me to see them early.
I'm sad for our future if this is what is being churned out of our schools and how these kids are being raised.
Said candidate arrives for an I terrier ?..........................
I always schedule my terrier...............
I wish it would be worthwhile writing book on this. I’ve interviewed a few hundred people during my career and have seen and heard some really screwed up things.
My counterpart recently interviewed a woman who volunteered the reason she left her last job ..... because people kept staring at her cleavage. This is a professional position too. Who says this stuff?
Young people today who actually have it all together will do very well indeed. Not much real competition out there.
Oh my gosh. That is a funny sentence. My fat fingers in conjunction with auto correct probably enacted that spelling error. It should have said interview.
That’s for sure. There are some kids who’ve been raised right. They have respect for other people and a good work ethic. I’ve seen some excel rapidly because they do double the work of others and actually have the motivation to learn. They tend to get promoted rapidly.
It was my experience when I was a business owner that most of these people didn’t REALLY want a job, they were just satisfying a requirement to ‘try’ to find work to keep getting unemployment benefits. If you actually gave them the job you would never see them again.
Did you hire the terrier?..................
what’s an I terrier and a hair filled short? Don’t give him a job.
Just had this conversation with the general manager for my employers warehouse.
He just reviewed 75 applications and did a bunch of interviews. He said it was clear they were all just punching the ticket and had no interest in working.
A good spell grammar checker should have known that meant short haired terrier. :)
Don’t expect it to get better, I know tons of employers and I am one also. the vast majority are lazy, have no drive, goals or initiative to do anything except go home and play with thier friends, smoke weed and play video games.
What is your starting wage?
In regards to the comment about people applying just to maintain their unemployment benefits:
I manage a jet charter operation. I had an opening for a Cessna Citation Bravo pilot. It clearly said in the advertisement the necessary pilot credentials, experience, FAA requirements, medical certificates, passport, etc. that were necessary for the job.
One day, via the web site Indeed (a job search website), I received two resumes. The resumes were from two ladies. In reading their resumes, their job history showed multiple jobs at fast food restaurants and housekeeping at various hotels. No job lasted more than six months. Nothing about education was listed in the resume. Based on their unique names, I suspected they were Amish.
Did I trash the resumes? Absolutely not! I brought in our office manager and turned on the speaker to the telephone. I called each lady. These calls took place at mid-day. In both cases, I got them out of bed. I inquired about their pilot experience, total time, time in jets, charter experience, etc.
After a few questions, it occurred to them they had applied for jobs as jet pilots. “I ain’t flyin’ no airplane. I be scared of them things.”
The interview went no further.
One of the executives at Indeed flies with us regularly. I showed him both resumes and teased him about the people he ‘sent us’ to fly him and his family.
He responded that he had no control over who applied for what job.
Where do I sign up for the racial sensitivity training that I so desperately need?
well here i was thinkin’ the guy showed up in shorts with hair sprouting everywhere.
In other words, the entitled little snots expect you to accommodate their schedules. I hope you make them wait.
(What’s a “hair filled short?”)
15-17 per hour depending upon experience
Re: $15-$17 per hour
That is good money.
Only two choices left...
Automate to the highest possible level with software and labor saving devices, or change your business model.
There is no solution to the USA labor problem - unless you want to move your current business to a Third World country.
Dressed for success?
No, dressed for contempt
