Paul tells the inconvenient truth about Simone Biles and her non-performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
Her problem isn’t mental illness. She believed she was “THE GOAT” - and lost her concentration. She didn’t suddenly become mentally ill. She just lost her focus.
It isn’t a big deal. It happens. I will never have the level of focus and concentration needed to do well at the high school level of most sports, let alone the Olympic.
But she doesn’t need to make excuses.
She's a media creation who has earned a lot of money not so much through her talent, but through the corporate financial support driven by her constant, and wide, media exposure. She quit in the middle of a competition in a field of expertise where she was one of the very best in the world, and she did it in a very public way. She and her supporters can't have it both ways -- seeking adulation when she's successful, but running for shelter and "privacy" when she's not.
That video was refreshing.
I’ll take McKayla Maroney any day.
Times have certainly changed, yes?
I talked a lot about Shun Fujimoto, who landed on a broken leg to secure the team Gold Medal for Japan in 1976.
And they chose Naomi Osaka over this guy to light the Olympic Flame?
Hey, ass-hat, you don't know shit. I've got 2 stents in my heart due to a life time of poor choices and predisposition to heart dieses. At the onset, I did everything I was supposed to do, and still had a second heart attack. As the doctor sardonically put it, "it looks like you won the genetic lottery". So don't talk to me about being at the mercy of a body that won't behave. I'm not even going to address the rest of what you assumed about my experiences, because I am sure it would be lost on you.
Fact is Biles proclaimed herself a GOAT, had a bad day at work, then quit, leaving her team-mates high and dry. That's not how the greatest of all times act. Biles apologists never talk about the heart ache her team mates have felt being denied a chance to be best in the world, at no fault of their own. We all have bad days at work, and a vast majority of us don't quit outright. That's the problem with the whole "mental health" thing. People use it as an excuse to not behave in all sorts of ways they should and people like you let them.
She deserves ridicule because of her hubris and so do you.
Says it all right there.
Olympic legends require people to transcend humanity and be perfect, at least for a short time. She is human, young, and has a great future ahead of her.
BTW, another American has won the All-Around title. Will anyone even know her name?
“Did a team of arguably the best basketball players in the world also have a group panic attack causing them to lose to the French you think?”
They had sore knees.
All that kneeling will do it.
Yeah, smarmy insults are such a good way to build support for your thread.
Quitters never win and winners never quit
I could name you 20 or more "sports" with life and death or risk of permanent injury. She could have chosen bowling.
“I messed up and now I’m embarrassed and afraid.”
Could they have ‘thrown’ it on purpose?
I just discovered Leonydus Johnson - the guy is truly impressive. Check out his website.
I’m wondering why she gets the privilege of staying at the Olympics. She’s not competing and is not a coach, trainer or team doctor. There are practically no spectators and I have read that athletes are required to go home after their events are finished due to COVID. What makes her so special? Also, if I were her teammate, I wouldn’t want her around after quitting on me.
