They have even become accustomed to the smell — God, the smell — of all the rotting fish in gruesome flotillas, victims of a toxic Red Tide in Tampa Bay
In Pinellas, they make $170 an hour, Toliver said. They pay for their own gas and expenses and drive an hour or more to reach the boat launch each day.
Pinellas County has hired an ad hoc armada of shrimp boats like the Tuckers’ to comb local waters with nets. About 30 boats have helped; in total, the county has collected more than 1,440 tons of dead sea life and debris from the beaches to the bay. And the work continues.
Once the nets are full — and it doesn’t take long — the shrimpers gather them to release plumes of dead fish in the middle of the boats, filling green bags with long handles. In an hour or so, sometimes less, the Tuckers can haul away up to 3,000 pounds.

Great fertilizer
Nature does that dangerous thing again.
Is this happening because of global warming?
“Its growth in the presence of a major nutrient source is achieved by asexual reproduction where one cell becomes two and two becomes four and so on.” https://start1.org/red-tide/
Faggot organisms - toxic on land and sea.
The best part? A page search on 'DeSantis' reveals a poll at the very bottom of the page innocently asking "Do you personally think that the recent 'Red Tide' issues in Florida will or will not become politically damaging for Gov. Ron DeSantis?" Nowhere is DeSantis mentioned in the article. Sneaky, sneaky! So FReep that poll, if you will.
Someone will probably try to tell us that. But red tides have been documented in Florida since 1844. No doubt they extend back to antiquity. The story of The Exodus in the Bible includes a red tide in ancient Egypt.
Is this happening because of global warming?
Nah!
Trump’s fault!
Done and Freeped.
University of Alabama was the Crimson Tide long before anybody uttered the term “global warming”. It has been around a long time.
Good catch! The Red Tide is exactly where Alabama got the nickname the “Crimson Tide”. The Red Tide is very efficient at killing everything that swims.
Call me Deacon Blues.
DeSantis is mentioned in the articular... as a creepy little add on ...
Hey, I’m just a poor little Auburn fan that lives in North Alabama.
On a related note, went on a charter bay fishing trip from Destin this past spring. The Boat captain said that red tide devastated his business about 4 years ago, but has recovered now. It happens. It is nature.
Freeped poll. imho, TBT is a very sad excuse for a “newspaper”; most of their articles attempt to instigate trouble against any Republican. The EPOCH Times is 1000 times better!
Crimson tide
Why is Alabama the Crimson Tide?
Crimson Tide Story
The game was played in a sea of crimson mud and the Alabama players’ white uniforms were stained crimson. As a sports editor for the Birmingham Age-Herald, Hugh Roberts, left the field, he described Alabama as a Crimson Tide. Sports writers then popularized the name and it’s stuck ever since.

Up here in Maryland, I have no idea how damaging that could be for DeSantis. I understand that a bill was passed in your legislature that would pre-empt localities from having training requirements for people to use fertilizer*, but I have no idea how onerous those local requirements were.
*Fertilizer runoff was listed in the article as one source that apparently fed the red tide organisms.
One of the dead fish haulers said he wished the DeSantis could come down and see this.
I guess DeSantis has some magic wand that would cause mangroves to sprout on the shoreline and stop this, correct?
