CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Cary couple is mystified by their current situation. Joy McGrael and her husband, Brent Eischen, are both sick and dealing with COVID-19, even though they're both fully vaccinated.
"I was definitely shocked and disappointed. I was like 'Darn, I thought I'm doing everything right,'" McGrael said.
She has a cough, can't smell or taste.
"I keep going around and picking up candles and seeing if I can smell them," McGrael said.
Eischen got COVID first last week.
"I was just shocked -- thought I was one of these unlucky people," he said.
The couple took cautions to stay safe and even began living on separate floors.
McGrael, a mom to three adult children, bought a bunch of at-home testing kits. She was using them daily and they were coming back negative.
She flew to the West Coast for work and continued getting daily tests there. The results were the same: negative.
Not long after returning home, she started feeling sick.
"Two breakthroughs in one household, I mean ... wow, really? (That was) not what I thought would happen," said McGrael.
Both still say they're happy they got vaccinated and encourage others to do the same.

Normally I would snidely ask: I thought having Covid was the very best immunity?
But reality is that ‘rona survivors and the vaxxed too get it. Usually due to a compromised immune system.

As always, I marvel at the populace being shocked that the vaccinated are catching the natural virus.
The animal trials, before covid was even a thing, pointed to problems when confronted with the natural virus.
Yet here we are, dumbfounded why vaccinated are catching covid, when the trials pointed right at it.

Its a vaccination, not an immunization.
Remember way back in the old days when people got colds and just said, “Damn, I got a damn cold. This week is going to suck.” Then they just sort of muddled through that week as best they could, tried to get more sleep, turned down a social invite, got a bottle of orange juice, and just went on with life?
Well, maybe they never really had COVID. Maybe they simply had the flu. Or maybe they have the Flu now. It’s not like the tests have gotten any better since this all began and we all know the alarming rate of “false positives” and the sudden absence of every other damn disease under the sun the last 1.5 years so......
The article says they’re married. Yet they have different last names. Odd.

Nurse in the family said those in the hospital where she is who have covid were all vaccinated.
