Federal officials are investigating after a single-engine plane crash Saturday at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport that killed the pilot.
Dale Snodgrass was the lone occupant of the SIAI-Marchetti fixed-wing aircraft when it crashed around noon during takeoff, according to a news release from airport Manager Michael Isaacs. Snodgrass’s age and hometown were not listed.
The aircraft came down in a field and caught fire just off the airport’s taxiway Charlie, according to Lewiston Fire Department Chief Travis Myklebust.

Yes, it is sad news.
Lewiston, Idaho?
First line of article:
Federal officials are investigating after a single-engine plane crash Saturday at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport that killed the pilot.
So, yes.

Regards,
You must be reading a different article.
I don’t see Idaho mentioned anywhere.
There’s a Lewiston in Maine and New York, also.
regards,
Lewiston–Nez Perce County Airport is in Lewiston, Idaho.
Yep, that is the first sentence, but it doesn’t tell us in which state that airport is located. So, yes if you copied Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport and googled it, as we both did, then you find that it is in Idaho, DOH. 🙂
Pilot in a famous F-14 Tomcat/USS America photo:
“Snodgrass was a legendary F-14 pilot in the U.S. Navy and was famously photographed in a knife edge pass close to the USS America aircraft carrier in 1988. Snodgrass was the F-14 demo pilot for Navy for more than a decade and has flown a laundry list of warbirds at airshows around the country.”

I get annoyed at Facebook posts about some shotgun shooting event. They always talk about the date, time, prizes and food - but you have to do a bunch of internet searching on what state it is in! Sometimes they don’t even mention the town!!??
That’s fine if putting up a flyer in the local gun or bait store - but on the internet!?
More than 3000 hours in the F-14; 400 carrier landings. Quite the pilot!
It was in Idaho. I was on USS AMERICA Carrier Veterans Association FB Page last night when the news broke. About 2:00am I found this article.https://lmtribune.com/update-pilot-killed-in-plane-crash-is-identified/article_9923d6a4-ecc0-11eb-aeb9-57005902859d.html?fbclid=IwAR2r_lIPJIdmwwNPOLj62cF99oAxwR5XrUGQXcNu0TTFnlPufkHdLygu_8M Captain Snodgrass {his final rank} He came onboard AMERICA about 8 years after I left. Rest In Peace Shipmate.
One of the men standing close to the JBD was the Admiral LOL. We called Tomcats ventilation cleaners. Fly one Tomcat by at FD level full speed and every ventilation duct on the ship blew out dust. My shop would be swamped for two weeks cleaning filters.
Nez perce a northwestern Indian tribe.
Thanks for that ....good first-hand story!
Nez Perce...indian tribe in Idaho for a clue. Chief Joseph anybody?
No specific model of this SIAI-Marchetti aircraft so the above picture is an educated guess. General Aviation Light Aircraft rating with an apparent piston power plant. Every pilot, no matter what the aircraft, risks gravity and bad luck on every flight. It is a mark of our great technology that so few make news like this!
Prayers for the family & friends of the pilot. He is done with this Earth, RIP!
I think it’s deplorable that the headline doesn’t name the state. But the name Nez Perce is a giveaway that it is somewhere in that northwest corner of the Nation, which was the home of Chief Joseph, and the Nez Perce Tribe.
It was released by this local news agency about 2:00am EDT this morning. It wasn't a national news release. It was actually the first one that released his identity. The first report of it came from an aviation forum one of the guys in the ships FB page saw. That was about midnight EDT.
So sad - RIP SNORT! I enjoyed flying with you...
