Another immediate way is to START ARRESTING CRIMINALS, esp. those with weapons and having a No-Bail policy for all of them.

Arresting the violent criminals and putting them in jail for long periods has been proven to work. Releasing them back into the community only hours or days after they commit a crime has proven to INCREASE crime.
