GREENSBORO, N.C. - Six major North Carolina hospital groups announced Thursday that all employees must get the COVID-19 vaccine, including the three hospital systems in the Triad - Cone Health, Novant Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health.
Atrium Health, Duke Health and UNC Health hospitals will also require employees to be immunized against COVID-19, according to a release from the North Carolina Healthcare Association.
Hospital officials said this comes as the Delta variant continues to spread and vaccination rates in North Carolina are at a standstill.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, nearly 99% of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths during May and June were among people not fully vaccinated.
Below is more information from each hospital system about the vaccine requirements. All information is attributed to the respective healthcare system.
Cone Health
Starting July 30, all Cone Health employees, including medical, dental, professional students, and volunteers, will be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Cone Health said in a release Thursday.
Cone Health said the decision comes as the Delta variant continues to rise in the U.S.
“I sincerely believe that this decision is absolutely the right thing to do for our patients and the communities we serve,” said Cone Health CEO Mary Jo Cagle, MD. “Vaccination is critically important in health care settings. It is one way that we ensure a safe environment for all members of our community.”

How is this legal for an “Experimental” Vaccine? I never thought I would live in a world so up side down.
Slowly but surely. Every day another brick falls. Soon, most Americans won’t be able to work, get an education, get medical services and such without a vaccine.
How many of the front line medical people and the other hospital personnel have had this crud, survived and created God’s immunity to this crud?
Not clear if there are medical or religious exemptions.
Soon a trip to the emergency room will be met with “We jab all patients”.
I wonder how many doctors and nurses will quit?
At present my doctor is a Novant employee. I am looking for a doctor who is not part of the medical industry, as it is no longer a profession but an industry.

Interesting that the numbers from other countries are entirely different, usually in the 50% range, which of course means that the jab is not a sure thing for protection, but a crap shoot.
I have read they only count vaccinated as infected if they are in the hospital. Non-vaccinated are infected if they test positive.

My concern is that they will refuse admission and treatment to those who have not chosen the jab.
Dr.s offices might even refuse ordinary visits such as physicals.
In those institutions the doctors are no more than hired guns.

They should all quit. Tell the hospital libs to have fun trying to keep the hospital running. It would take all of them a whole five minutes to have a new job in Texas.
My wife is a nurse in the Cone system, worked in the Covid unit all of last year and never got Covid. (Read that to yourself again). She and many of her colleagues have no desire to take the vaccine.
The big push is on.
I agree. My doctor is not a big fan but they are applying pressure.

My sister is a nurse in the Wake system. Same exposure and experience as your wife.
She likely has various medical reasons not to be vaccinated, in addition to all else. I wonder whether they will choose losing good staff like her for the sake of this policy.
And can someone, anyone qualified to know, tell me please what the vaccine actually does so far as protection from infection by covid-19 in any variant?
I’d like to understand the benefit of being vaccinated by an experimental drug with known serious side effects and unknown long term conditions. I’d also like to know just how much protection from disease it affords since so many of the newly infected and sick people have already been vaccinated.
Just asking. These are honest serious questions.
