ALPENA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A portion of M-32 will be closed for five hours on August 5 as the Air Force practices landing an aircraft on roadways designed for cars and trucks.
According to the Air Force, the plan is to land four A-10 aircraft and two C-146 aircraft on a closed-off portion of the road near the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center.

That was brought up at #17.
Btw, could be for rapid deployment, inserting specialized strike teams to distant venues.
Or maybe it’s simply training for pilots where the aircraft is going down and any straight 4 lane highway that isn’t lined with telephone poles will do.
Or maybe their just jealous of the 18 year old kid in a piper cub, a banner dragger, who recently landed on some bridge back east.
Exactly...I agree
Something else is going on, I suspect.
What’s a C-146 ?

Takes less time to google it, than to post the query on here.
For many years the Air Force has had a tactical policy to “flush” all flyable aircraft in case of an incoming missile. The order goes out and everybody scrambles like hell, theoretically, to get “their” bird off the ground and safely away before the nuke arrives. (Yeah, it does sound like a “cluster” of epic proportions in the making.)
I don’t know if this disaster policy has ever been practiced in real time with real aircraft landing at real destinations. But there are more “bad guys” than ever with nukes and/or missiles in this world. I’d rather see us prepared than have our planes caught on the ground.
Yes, it is about as red as it gets. 64% Trump in 2020
Training. Who cares why they are landing planes on roads?
In case they ever need to do it.
M 32 is not even close to an interstate.
Its a two lane road.
Wait a minute, you imply everyone here is a conspiracy theorist, then you post a link which does not explain the purpose of this training in regards to landing aircraft on public roads.
And since you’re so well informed, what’s the purpose?
Who cares why they are landing planes on roads?
LOL! That's a real knee slapper!
Most people don’t get Northern Strike.
Its huge and international.
It is probably for rescue work..

You’re taking it all out of context. Fear runs this site these days.
We live ten miles from this training center.
This is what they do. They practise things. And those from other countries may have asked for this practise.
If you know anything about northern MI you should know we support our military.

You implied everyone here was conspiracy nut, so you must have inside information. Tell me, why are they planning on landing military aircraft on public roads? What specifically are they training for? Thanks.
Why does it scare you so much?
You don’t answer a question with a question. See the tagline?
You obviously don’t know, so I’ll say it for you.
“ Haven’t been here long? Its Northern Strike and we do it every year.”

Well, I’m from Metro Detroit.
Bought the place in 2010……built our house and moved here in Oct. 2013.
I’m aware of Northern Strike.
A couple years back they had Polish Pilots training, flying out of Grayling.
Often we have Military Aircraft flying over our property during the trainings.
I can’t recall ever having a Highway Shut down to land on it.
That’s the big difference, hence the Thread posted.
Trump took the sunrise side of Northern Michigan in 2016 and 2020.
My County (Otsego) Tump won by much larger margins however.
I recall reading about that somewhere a long time ago.
Yes, early Cold War plans are always interesting.
