A Japanese composer working on the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony resigned on Monday over allegations of bullying his classmates in the past.
Keigo Oyamada posted an apology on his Twitter and Facebook accounts after reports of his past abuse surfaced on social media.
"I sincerely accept the opinions and advice I have received, express my gratitude, and will keep them in mind for my future actions and thoughts," Oyamada wrote.
"I apologize from the bottom of my heart."
Oyamada was accused of bullying classmates, including those with disabilities, and faced backlash and calls for his resignation on social media. He posted his apology last week.

Oyamada, whose works have been compared to the American rock musician Beck, talked about the abuse in Japanese magazine interviews he gave in the 1990s.
In a statement on Sunday, Atsuko Kubo, head of an association of families of the mentally disabled, "strongly protested" against Oyamada's past actions and said it was disturbing he had targeted the disabled, who were less likely to fight back and that he still bragged about it years later.
Earlier Monday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said Oyamada's past bullying goes against government policy of achieving an inclusive society and "cannot be tolerated."

Dude, you’ve had a lucky escape from the coming cluster foxtrot.
Is there no statute of limitations on these things? This, being white, being male, and murder. Everything else is forgiven.
These purity tests are damaging a lot of people, many of them highly skilled and talented. Eventually the number of “defectives” will become the obvious majority, so what was said in the past usually will not matter except in extreme cases. But until that point is reached, more pillars will fall and need to rebuild their careers.
“Antony, Mark Ronson, Cornelius to Play in Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band”
“And next month, she’ll do it again. On June 14, Yoko Ono and her Plastic Ono Band will make their first appearance ever in the UK, playing at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The show will be part of the annual Meltdown Festival, which this year is curated by the free-jazz legend Ornette Coleman. This incarnation of the Plastic Ono Band will include a random but great murderers’ row of musicians: vocal powerhouse Antony Hegarty, retro-soul production mastermind Mark Ronson, nepotism beneficiary (kidding) Sean Lennon, Japanese pop-art weirdo Cornelius (along with a couple of members of his band), and ex-Cibo Matto foil Yuka Honda. Yoko will be previewing music from her forthcoming album, Between My Head and the Sky, out this fall.”

That was 12 years ago. Today, Yoko uses a wheelchair often pushed by her son Sean. She’s not even mailing acorns anymore. Her health is poor, but she could probably still provide a glass shattering shriek every now and then for her fans.
RE: PURITY TESTS
Without CHRIST, forgiveness is futile. May the world know the love of GOD through the sacrifice of His only Son JESUS CHRIST.
It is not a case of a 'statue of limitations' here, it is the firehose of unedited, under-informed internet denizens with no feedback mechanism! Someone with a gripe, social, business or political, makes an accusation, generally about someone already in the public eye.
In the last generation system of public information like newspapers or media, an editor was employed to check facts, see if the 'news' was worth the limited newspaper inches or airtime and then make it a go/no-go decision. Now, none of this exists, there is an unlimited bandwidth, no real fact-checking and no editor.
Garbage in and garbage out!
In Japan revenge is a dish best served cold.
Waiting for 30 years..........that’s nothing.
The Japanese can wait for 70 years for revenge without batting an eye of impatience.
Hot revenge involves swords and knives and cutting off body parts, something the Japanese have mostly abandoned except for the Yakuza.
I bow to this guy’s Kung fu.
Have no idea what the complaint may be except that the composer and director pushed and prodded until the orchestra met his standards?
Aye, that's the rub.
Standards of excellence.
So now people are canceling themselves?
Japan is a VERTICAL society. It’s nothing to put down those that are lower on you in any endeavor. Just look at how they treated prisoners in WW2. ‘Sensei’ is a form of ‘Mr.’-used by doctors, teachers, anyone important.
Just cancel it, already.
Some aspects of Japanese society seems to be schizophrenic, with one part extremely too overly apologetic and another side not apologetic at all when maybe they should be.
Can’t any Japanese say, with enough self respect - “that was then and I(we) am(are) sorry, but that is not me(us) now”?
China is just not getting revenge for the Opium Dens.
not=now
China is just not getting revenge for the Opium Dens. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
you can say that again.
Anyone who knows what the fascist Japanese did in Chinaduring WWII wpouod hardly blame them.
But we have to choose the functional side.
The Chiese are totalitarians. They execute their criminals by dosing them with opiates until they are unconscious and vivasect them to death, selling the organs on the transplant black market.
Japan has changed.
China has not.
I’ll take Japan any day.
