It's ironic that the documentarian best known for a television series about the Civil War seems to have forgotten the Civil War. That is the only conclusion one would have to make about PBS filmmaker Ken Burns because on Friday's The 11th Hour With Brian Williams, after briefly discussing Robert E. Lee and Woodrow Wilson, he declared that "this is the most fraught time I think in the history of our republic."
Really, Ken? More fraught than the American Civil War that you chronicled in which over half a million died? Well, according to the sanctimonious lecture provided by Burns, these times are even worse because of "misinformation and paranoia and the lying voter suppression."
He's saying this to Brian Williams, who is known for misinformation. There's a lecture about Critical Race Theory, and Burns cartoons the conservative (and common sense) opposition as usual.

>>Should we take this as the Democrats threatening to secede again?
They already tried when Trump was elected.

One in every three California residents supports the most populous U.S. state’s peaceful withdrawal from the union, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, many of them Democrats strongly opposed to Trump’s ascension to the country’s highest office.
The 32 percent support rate is sharply higher than the last time the poll asked Californians about secession, in 2014, when one-in-five or 20 percent favored it around the time Scotland held its independence referendum and voted to remain in the United Kingdom.
California also far surpasses the national average favoring secession, which stood at 22 percent, down from 24 percent in 2014...

KEY POINTS
A proposed California secession measure has been cleared to begin gathering needed signatures to qualify for the ballot.
A similar effort by the so-called Calexit organizers failed last year.
It is worse, in a way.
This time is much closer to true “civil war”, wherein truly it could be bro vs byproduct, and neighbor true enemy.
The CW was largely divided along geographic lines.
This is closer to the “revolution”, where no one truly knew if their neighbor was on their side.
But that aside, not really hot yet.
And also, I despise Ken Burns. Most overrated producer ever.
Nah. Asexual. Thankfully.
See #2.
Oh God, bless you. Waiting for the Yankees true believers to rip you to shreds for having the gall to say that.
He and Kim Jong Un might share a barber.
Wouldn't that be wonderful? Peacefully splitting the country into two countries... We'd be so happy to see them go, we'd be crying on the border, "Oh thank YOU God for delivering us from evil..."
“He does look like a typical Democrat. I can’t picture him in uniform from either side of the CW.”
If you watch the third day of Gettysburg about halfway through the bombardment near the angle, he runs up and grabs General Handcock’s horse, urging the general to move to a safer spot.
