About a week ago, a company in Utah that makes custom modifications to firearms debuted what it described as a fun new product: a kit that encases Glock handguns in red, yellow and blue Lego blocks, refashioning lethal weapons to look exactly like children’s toys.
“We have been building guns out of blocks for the last 30 years and wanted to flip the script to aggravate Mom,” Provo-based Culper Precision explained on its website. It went on to argue that personal defense is a right granted by God and that gun ownership is protected by the Constitution before getting to the most important reason the company was selling “BLOCK19,” as the design was named, for $549 to $765, depending on the specifics.
Dumb, yes, but legal in at least most of the country, said David Pucino, a lawyer at the Giffords Law Center. Although federal law prohibits toys from being manufactured to look like guns, no such law prohibits guns from being made to look like toys. Pucino noted that New York state bans people from disguising firearms as something else, which could make the Lego-crusted Glock illegal there, but he doubted that many other states had passed similar regulations.

Someone is going to get shot brandishing a toy. Some cop or ccw holder is going to hesitate and get shot by one of these or similar modifications.
Gun manufacturers are not being responsible doing idiot things like this.

Back in the day, toy guns were very realistic looking, with the exception of ray guns, which looked nothing like actual ray guns. They started making them look like toys in the ‘80s with the red barrel tips and other wild colors.

Back in those days every kid I was friends with knew what a real gun was and knew to never point it at anyone or anything they didn’t want to put a hole in. And lots of kids got shot on accident, too, even back then.

It’s just an utterly dumb idea. And I’d *LOVE* one of their regular products, I’m as far from a gun hater as you can get.
Just a dumb idea all around, especially for a company that is strongly pro second amendment and supports the RKBA to give such a ‘own goal’ to the gun grabbers.

From a practical standpoint, I'd be interested in how well it holds up. The ABS that Lego is made of is some top-quality stuff, so it should be able to deal with a bit of heat. I don't know how well it would deal with a lot of time at the range though.

Sure, but that’s sort of like a solider saying “they’re going to shoot at me anyway, so what does it matter where I stand.”
If you want to win, don’t stand where it is easiest to hit you.

Doesn’t matter to the democrats. They will ban guns because they are “cute” or “scary.” Hell, look what they do to little boys who make finger guns, or gasp, chew a pop tart in to a gun shaped wafer.
but for safety. Yes. Not wise to have a firearm resembling a toy but then again kids will grab a non toy looking gun too.
It’s not about the gun haters, it’s about the folks in the middle. The gun grabbers are going to use this for everything they can.
It’s utterly stupid. Never hand the other side a massive club. There’s no excuse.
My concern is that trying not to make ourselves easy targets, has had many on the right playing defense for 30 years. At this point, I’d like to see a general lessening of hostilities, but as something agreed to and enforced by all sides to a single standard.

You miss the point; guns are disguised as toys to confuse police into backing off so the shooter can take them out.

Plenty of instances of kids getting killed from having realistic looking toys, how many can you cite of police getting shot because they thought it was a toy?
