The Capitol Police Department has a new chief, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
They confirmed to ABC News that J. Thomas Manger has been selected to be the leader of the department.
Manger has previously served as the police chief in Montgomery County, Maryland, and in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was also the president of the Major City Chiefs of Police Association.
Capitol Police referred questions from ABC News to the Capitol Police Board which picks the new chief.
He replaces acting Chief Yogananda Pittman.
Pittman was in charge of the department's Intelligence Division before accepting the job as acting chief following the January attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Intellegence division?
If he’s from Montgomery County PD, we’re never finding out anything about Ashli.
I thought he was identified as Schumers security guy
Wha...?
Harry Himler
With a resume like his, he’s a liberal hack and a yes man. You’ll get nothing from him
I knew it.
This is the Stasi.
Must be stopped, the expansion nationwide of an unaccountable secret police force.
“...that’s just as powerful. Just as well funded...” —Barack Obama
During his law enforcement career he probably spent 2 hours in a squad car answering calls before he pissed himself. Then his clout got him out of actually having to be a cop.
“Must be stopped, the expansion nationwide of an unaccountable secret police force.”
Do you expect the Republicans to do anything?
I would say you’re not that far off.
First off, Congressional snakes from Fairfax County and Montgomery County may well be slithering about in this appointment.
Equally so, this appointment to become Chief of the United States Capitol Police appears to complement the (Pelosi) published goal of becoming a nation-wide department. Otherwise, appointment of Tom Manger is some ultimate of over-qualification.
Tom Manger’s performance as Chief in Montgomery County, Maryland appears to have capped off a 40-something year of achievement. In my view, Chief Manger did an outstanding job as Chief, Fairfax County Police serving in excess of 25-years. Second only to Charlie Deane, the now retired Chief of Prince William County Police, Chief Tom Manger deserves the highest marks among police chiefs in the Washington metropolitan area.
Finally; though separate jurisdictions yet within the same neighborhood, one hopes that the academic qualifications of newly appointed Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Robert J. Contee, will experience practical professional growth through the indirect-direct mentorship of Chief Manger.
