First off, Congressional snakes from Fairfax County and Montgomery County may well be slithering about in this appointment.
Equally so, this appointment to become Chief of the United States Capitol Police appears to complement the (Pelosi) published goal of becoming a nation-wide department. Otherwise, appointment of Tom Manger is some ultimate of over-qualification.
Tom Manger’s performance as Chief in Montgomery County, Maryland appears to have capped off a 40-something year of achievement. In my view, Chief Manger did an outstanding job as Chief, Fairfax County Police serving in excess of 25-years. Second only to Charlie Deane, the now retired Chief of Prince William County Police, Chief Tom Manger deserves the highest marks among police chiefs in the Washington metropolitan area.
Finally; though separate jurisdictions yet within the same neighborhood, one hopes that the academic qualifications of newly appointed Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Robert J. Contee, will experience practical professional growth through the indirect-direct mentorship of Chief Manger.
