I think the current problems really took off with the rise of Progressive philosophy, which despises Christianity and constraints on government.
It started picking up about 1890, but writers such as Mark Twain were early precursors.
I believe Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) was an early anti-Christian, as was Rudyard Kipling.
Robert A. Heinlein is a later example.
Very few writers today write from a Christian worldview.
Almost all did before 1900.

I also suspect we really don’t understand the effects of modern pornography on society. The technology that instantly allows video of anything to be seen anywhere and at any time is very new, since around 2005 or so.

The Supreme Court of the United States constitutionalized the rot. It imposed immorality, while simultaneously booting God from the civil society.

The difference is that the rot has primarily been confined to certain classes. With mass media and now social media, it has penetrated deep into the common culture.
not to mention that the kids in schools are spoon fed the rot by the left as well-
