Rare monkeypox virus reported in Dallas resident

Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious viral illness that typically begins with flu-like symptoms and swelling of the lymph nodes, progressing to a widespread rash on the face and body. Most infections last two to four weeks. Monkeypox is in the same family of viruses as smallpox but causes a milder infection.

In this case, CDC laboratory testing showed the patient is infected with a strain of monkeypox most commonly seen in parts of West Africa, including Nigeria. Infections with this strain are fatal in about 1 in 100 people, according to a CDC statement. However, rates can be higher in people with weakened immune systems. There is no proven safe treatment for monkeypox virus infection.

The patient developed a rash just before departing Nigeria, but the rash worsened after the person returned home to Dallas, according to an official familiar with the investigation who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter because of the ongoing probe. The person went to the hospital Tuesday. Clinicians quickly made the diagnosis based on the symptoms and recent travel history from Nigeria. By then, the person had developed the characteristic symptoms: rashes on their face and elsewhere on the body.

Authorities said they have interviewed the patient and close contacts who were exposed and determined there is very little risk to general public. People who do not have symptoms are not capable of spreading the virus to others.

Much like the outbreak of Ebola in the US after a man from Africa flew to the US to get treatment for it, without telling anyone he had it. 2014-1016.

He died.

You don’t suppose it has anything to do with the flood of illegals coming across our border?

People saw that in the 80s and swear it was a true thing.

That “Faces of Death” offered their own staged footage of such dining only added to the urban legend.

How would a virus endemic to Nigeria end up in Texas?

Probably the same way that Ebola ended up in the area.

This could easily be a repeat of the Ebola cases in Dallas ... also brought by an African immigrant.

37 cases of monkeypox in 5 US states in 2003

https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/outbreak.html

How was monkeypox virus transmitted to humans?
All people infected with monkeypox became ill after having contact with infected prairie dogs purchased as pets. A study conducted after the outbreak suggested that certain activities associated with animals were more likely to lead to monkeypox. These included touching a sick animal or receiving a bite or scratch that broke the skin. Another important factor was cleaning the cage or touching the bedding of a sick animal. No instances of monkeypox were attributed exclusively to person-to-person contact.

The great thing about the mRNA technology is they can create a vaccine in just a few weeks. Monkeypox vaccines for everyone. I’m serious. I’m pretty sure the 1 in 100 deaths is a much higher death rate than what the Chinapox is.

Monkeypox is a rare disease that is caused by infection with monkeypox virus.

Monkeypox was first discovered in 1958 when outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in monkeys kept for research. The first human case was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and since then the infection has been reported in a number of central and western African countries. Most cases are reported from DRC and Nigeria.

In 2003, monkeypox was recorded in the USA when an outbreak occurred following importation of rodents from Africa. Cases were reported in both humans and pet prairie dogs. All the human infections followed contact with an infected pet and all patients recovered. No other country outside West and Central Africa has reported similar cases or outbreaks.

On 3 December 2019, a patient was diagnosed with monkeypox in England. This is the fourth case diagnosed in the UK since the first imported cases in 2018. Two other cases in travellers were diagnosed in Israel in 2018 and Singapore in 2019.

From 1958 to 1977, the World Health Organization conducted a global vaccination campaign that eradicated smallpox, making it the only human disease to be eradicated. Although routine smallpox vaccination is no longer performed on the general public, the vaccine is still being produced to guard against bioterrorism, biological warfare, and for monkeypox.[2][3]

1958 might be the key

It won’t surprise me to see some unusual diseases as a result of Biden’s open borders.

Monkeypox is in the same family of viruses as smallpox but causes a milder infection.

Fifty years ago Monkeypox wouldn't have been a problem, because almost everyone was vaccinated against Smallpox. The CDC needs to license the German Smallpox vaccine that is much gentler than the old Dryvax Vaccinia vaccine to use against Monkeypox.
