The Delta variant's message to anti-vaxxers: It's your funeral
Yahoo ^

Posted on 07/15/2021 8:14:27 AM PDT by MNDude

The Delta variant is here. It's now responsible for the majority of COVID-19 infections in the United States and is driving a rapid rise in cases, not only in red states like Arkansas but in true blue New York City.

But while the Delta variant is much more contagious than either the original strain or the Alpha variant that first appeared in Britain, and has shown greater ability to infect vaccinated individuals, all the vaccines approved for use in the United States have so far proven highly effective in preventing severe disease and death.

So it's understandably maddening that much of the American right has decided this is the time to double down on making opposition to vaccination a central front in our endless culture war.

It's maddening — but it is essential not to take the bait. The fact that vaccines have become a focal point at all should be the final proof that the culture war is a self-sustaining process largely untethered from substantive grievances. Republicans believe that on balance fighting helps them politically, and I suspect they are right. But it's not a war that either side can actually win by fighting, even though individual politicians and media stars can advance their own particular fortunes. For the country as a whole, the only way to win is not to play.

Without researching the lab leak hypothesis, can we be certain these variants did not also originate in a lab?

The stats show the Delta variant is no more lethal than seasonal flu.

The writer is an stereotyping fool.

Most Conservatives I know that haven’t had Covid yet have been vaccinated.

I see more here on FR opposed to vaccines than I see in my own community (an extremely Red Community).

I know Liberals opposed to the vaccines for the same reasons some Conservatives I know are opposed to it.

The writer is reinforcing turning Covid and vaccines into a political issue.

Get vaccinated or don’t. It’s a Health Care Choice. Nothing more.

There is plenty of info out there for and from both sides that people can make an informed decision and proceed accordingly.

That is the USUAL case.

I hope it’s still true here.

It’s as if viruses play a balancing act. If they infect easily, that is enough for them to survive and the fatality rate isn’t high.

But if they can’t infect easily, they tend to be very powerful and deadly. They’re making up for their deficiency that way.

E.g, in honesty COVID has no more than 1% death rate. Its cousins, like MERS and SARS, have something like 30% and 11% death.

Here in Los Angeles every local newscast begins with breathless reporting of the new “threat” of the Delta variant, with “cases surging” etc etc etc. It's really amazing to watch. Grim faced reporter-ette implying we're all gonna die.

They have to keep this hysteria going until at least the 2022 midterms so the millions of fraudulent mailed ballots can carry the Senate for the Democrats and enlarge their margins in the House. That's the plan. It has nothing to do with any real medical threat.

To be fair, there is an uptick in deaths and hospitalizations and positive tests even though the number of tests being performed is way down. So there is some sort of wave forming.

What they are not talking about are the numbers of vaccinated adults who are getting breakthrough infections. They just cite the data to scaremonger those who chose to forego these vaccines and ignore the rest of the story.

Viruses that kill their hosts don’t survive. So it is a form of viral Darwinism to mutate into less fatal, less severe forms.

What makes you think he wrote this article? Any proof to your conspiracy? He posted an article. That’s it. it’s allowed. Personal attacks (like yours) aren’t supposed to be. So, chill out.

Well this is a clue as to bias: “...preventing severe disease and death.” Uhh, you cretins, that is not all a vaccine is supposed to do! It is supposed to provide herd immunity. As to the Indian variant being noticed more, well so bloody what? IF it still has an insignificant death rate so what? Are you only testing for it, now?

OK, let’s get ahead of this. From what country will the lambda variant be from? Place yer bets.

Agreed. My family all COVID survivors. Do not trust a rushed vaccine anyway, but esp. don’t want it since I had the disease. Meanwhile the docs keep pushing it claiming what Hopkins had found earlier about only 3 mos immunity. Now Cleveland Clinic claims it’s longer.

I’ve had Covid. I haven’t had the vaccine. From what I’m seeing, the vaccine doesn’t work to prevent Covid at all. Plus the PCR tests are wildly inaccurate. Carry on.

Seems to make sense, but it’s generally true. Ebola isn’t quite as transmissible as it seems it should be, but it is very serious.

Likewise Bird Flu. H5N1 types very dangerous, but not actually that contagious.

Our county commissioner sounded the alarm because of 365 positive tests. There are 1.3 million people. This is an absolute war we are in against liberal fascists.

This doesn’t make sense to me. Where’s the logic

If a vaccinated person can catch the Delta V...then what does it matter if I’m vaccinated?
The vax was only good for the original strain.

He’s just as susceptible to the Delta with the vax as I am without it...so why should I get vaccinated?

Is Big Pharma coming out with a Delta V vaccine too?

A little glimpse of sanity. Yup, that’s right our choice our consequences. Almost as if people might control their own choices. I know they didn’t mean it that way, but that’s how I’ll take it.
