Elmer Fudd is back to his gun-toting ways again and back to shooting at Bugs Bunny with his hunting rifle in the new season on HBO Max after losing his guns in last year’s Looney Tunes Cartoons.
Last year, HBO Max aired the revived series Looney Tunes Cartoons, which continued the feud between the wisecracking rabbit and the wascally wabbit hunter. Both Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam had their guns confiscated for the first season of the Looney Tunes revival due to worries about cartoon characters carrying firearms in children’s programming. Looney Tunes Cartoons returned on HBO Max this week for a new season. For better or worse, the decision was taken to return Mr. Fudd’s guns, and it wasn’t long before he used them.
Could this change of heart also signal good news for Pepe Le Pew fans who were disappointed by the cartoon skunk’s disappearance from Space Jam: A New Legacy? Although original director Terence Nance had planned for Pepe to appear in the sequel, when Malcolm D. Lee took over the film, he had the character completely scrapped, and the skunk is only seen in a cameo. The choice sparked enormous outrage, which was amplified when A Clockwork Orange’s Droogs were spotted in the trailer.
