NEW ORLEANS, La. — Edwin Washington Edwards, the high-living, quick-witted four-term governor who reshaped Louisiana’s oil revenues and dominated the state’s politics for decades, a run all but overshadowed by scandal and eight years in federal prison, died Monday. He was 93.
Edwards died of respiratory problems with family and friends by his bedside, family spokesman Leo Honeycutt said, days after entering hospice care at his home in Gonzales, near the Louisiana capital.
“I have lived a good life, had better breaks than most, had some bad breaks, too, but that’s all part of it. I tried to help as many people as I could and I hope I did that and I hope, if I did, that they will help others, too. I love Louisiana and I always will,” Edwards said in some of his last words, according to Honeycutt’s statement.

Highly corrupt administrations. (One of the bumper stickers in one election was “Vote for the Crook/It’s Important). Dodged all of the charges except one - and the consensus was that it was the only one where he was probably innocent. But odds and his reputation caught up with him.
While he was married to his first wife, one of the LSU sororities used to supply girls. A state car would pick them up and deliver them to the governor. (I think the wife was in the governor’s mansion, and he was living elsewhere, but I may be wrong about that recollection - it’s been more than 30 years)
His third wife was only 50 years younger than him.

A good guy. Saw him many times in the 70s at Harrah’s crap tables Lake Tahoe. Always dressed impeccably.
I was in a band that was hired to play at several fundraisers during one of his many campaigns for governor. He was a colorful, animated character.
I suppose that the only good strategy that year was to put Edwards in office and then immediately open grounds for his removal.
Still have never looked much at the primary or how a “former” Democrat/Independent/Klansman got the GOP nomination.
Even recently he tweeted that one of the Squad was his favorite congressperson because of her antisemitism.

Instead of kissing babies, he kissed their mothers. Disney made a movie about his relationship with an exotic dancer. Was it him, or did Louisiana have three colorful governors?
Earl Long had the relationship with a stripper.
