Why would they need to photocopy it? If it’s like many forms of government account documents, photocopies are illegal. It has a freaking number on it that can be used on an absentee ballot for verification purposes.

The Georgia law stipulates if you vote by mail you need to include a photo copy of your id.
I guess they can use that to see if your vote matches your name and isn’t used on 1,000s of mail in ballots. For example, like the name Stacey Abrams appearing on 10,000+ ballots in Fulton County. Imagine if the all had the same picture (they’d need a wide angle lens)!
