The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
We are getting 2 bottles of concentrate and I got a spray bottle. Then we heard from walmart.com that the package was damaged in shipment and they sent another. My pansies are recovering too I moved them into the shade for several days.
Those sound good.
Glad on the pansies! I posted a picture of mine, somewhere above. They’re still going string. Sweet Peas, too!
I’ve had things damaged in shipping from Walmart too, and they are always really good about replacing items quickly; no questions asked.
Wife peels and slices for B and B pickles...

I just saw this - looks SO good!!

Oh, Yum! :) Thanks!
Any thoughts in my mystery bug?
Maybe mealybugs?

I want this garden. Even a mini version, enough for us, would be fine.
Mealy Bugs, most likely, though I'm not seeing anything on the web that they attack Kale. They can be a real pest on houseplants too, especially if you bring in potted peppers from outside to over-winter them.
If the are Mealy Bugs and since they're on FOOD, I would go the organic route, so I'd use insecticidal soap. It may take a few applications accounting for rain and/or how persistent they can be.

If you ever get them on houseplants, a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol will kill them deader than dead. ;)
Thank you. I applied a spray of water, vegetable oil, and Dr Bonner’s Castille soap the other day. Have not done a micro eyeball test/check to see how that went.
What a beautiful set-up! Cardboard has always been my friend!
My Mom had the AWESOME idea to lay roofing shingles (sheets of them) between the rows of all of my raised beds, and it’s working amazingly well to keep down the weeds. We put them ‘gritty side up’ so you have decent purchase even when wet. Solved her problem of getting rid of a big stack of old shingles she had, (she had a metal roof put on her house last year) and she also went to a local lumber yard and they gave her another stack for FREE from a broken bag they had.
She’s a sweet-talker, that one! She also got me my first greenhouse for $500 when it was a $3K set up! Lumber yard was going out of business and it was their floor model. They even delivered it to me, just to be rid of it!
Anyhow, ANY system that fights weeds and improves the soil by not tilling, is a winner. Those crops look fantastic! I haven’t tilled my raised beds (I use a thick layer of straw as mulch) in 5 years now, and I have tons of earthworms and other ‘good stuff’ in there.
Yep; People are crazy!
Echinocystis lobata/wild cucumber

Wild Cucumber is a ‘love potion?’
I guess that makes some sense because when I’m newly in love, I usually have, ‘stomach troubles, kidney ailments, rheumatism, chills and fever,’ LOL! :)

LOL! Great movie. :)

Companion Planting for Pest Control is a handy one. https://permasteader.com/cloud/index.php/s/H8iLwmfLHiGFyjG
