How about increasing police presence; prosecuting and jailing thugs; and promoting stable two-parent families (root cause) so that grocery stores won’t abandon an area?

This looks like an object lesson in “correlation does not equal causation”. Given the relationship between criminal gun homicides and inner city gun violence, and given the food deserts inside of crime- and gang-ridden inner cities, one could imagine other such meaningless articles:
“Gold teeth linked to gun violence”
“Fatherless households linked to gun violence”
“Low rider vehicles and undercarriage lighting linked to gun violence”
“Musical car horns linked to gun violence”
... and let’s not forget:
“Section 8 housing, welfare and EBT usage linked to gun violence”

Anyone who works for NPR is required to be a racist before starting work there.

Replace the lettuce with spinach. Replace the radishes with beets. Replace the bok choy with green beans and add corn and carrots. Those are some of the simplest crops to grow and pretty healthy to boot.

He has also seen how gun violence...he saw one of his students go to prison for a shooting.
But it’s ‘gun violence’ not thug violence. Not blaming him for what his students are doing, but is he blaming them? If his students are shooting at people, they belong in prison.

BS … having cruddy moral and ethical values and also being a violent person is what leads to violence.

Ignore the catch phrases and consider that this guy's trying to do something good.
“I’ve seen the difference in kids when they get a meal and when they don’t get a meal, how they behave and how they focus in school,” he said. “So I truly believe that’s all connected.”
While he may have the inner city experiences and typical, dem talking point of big government can save us ingrained into his thinking, he's trying to do a good thing. Go ahead and put him down for that or group people together. Will he get anywhere? Maybe he'll change a few lives. Better than most people will do in their life.
