The news that a Frasier reboot was in the pipeline was somewhat bittersweet for fans when no mention was made of the classic sitcom's supporting cast making a comeback.
But star of the show Kelsey Grammer has now backtracked on this, and revealed he's certain his co-stars will return.
Speaking to Collider, the actor, 66, who plays the titular Dr. Crane, said: 'We think we’re going to get most of the actors back, I’m certainly hopeful that we will, and I’m fairly confident that they’ll come back...
'We have a story to tell — that can actually be told with or without them, honestly — but I want them back because that’s what I always dreamed of.
'I thought we should explore all their lives in their third act, and so that is my hope.'
Many were left upset when David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier's brother Niles, Jane Leeves, who played Niles' eventual wife Daphne, and Peri Gilpin, who played Frasier's producer Roz, were not mentioned in the announcement in February that Paramount+ had revived the iconic comedy. Yet four months later and it appears they have been coaxed back to the fold after all.
Kelsey also teased an air date, adding: 'We don’t actually have a date when we’re going to start filming. We’re still kind of breaking the story a little bit, we’re doing a polish now.
'When will we see a Frasier? Probably in the first quarter of next year...'

Which is that?
In the end episode, Roz went to Frisco and Frasier seemed to be heading to Chicago? Like we were to guess what he might be doing.
Bulldog?
The father is. Mahoney. An old homo.
Martin was my favorite character. I’m just hoping they don’t ruin it. It was a good show, but it was always hit or miss with me. There were really funny episodes and then really bad ones. I still watch it every now and again.
Ah, the TV universe, no wonder it made no sense.
What about Lilith, played by Bebe Neuwirth?
Lilith totally had it going on in a smart chick sort of way. I liked her better than all those liberal WASP-y women who came and went in Frasier’s life.
I hope she comes back too, but she probably at long last met some plumber or something. Life goes on...
She was a funny character. I liked her sly sense of humor.
Well if it is Cafe Nervosa will have a lot more to be nervosa about. I could picture Niles as a mask Karen.
“I recall that you are pop-culture deprived. :)”
Quite.
I remember the stories in the tabloids about how it was that Mahoney never got married (parents' marriage so unhappy) and David Hyde Pierce going on Leno to talk about his "girlfriend" -- making it clear by his intonation that he didn't actually have one, but had to pretend that he did. Different times.
Mahoney actually was a devout Catholic, so who knows what was really going on with him.
Also, Mahoney wasn’t that much older than Grammar, so they gave him a walker so that he could play Frazier’s dad.
Yet Frazer’s conservative, retired cop father got in quite a few good lines and was often given the better side of an exchange. And Frazer often became the butt of the joke as one or another of his romantic schemes fell awry. At its best, the show had a balance that made for comedic tension, and I expect that will be retained in the revival of the show.
Good scene.
