The Eisenhower Interstate System was designed with National Defense in mind. When the Korean War broke out, most of the military equipment and materiel was located east of the Mississippi, and the logistic nightmare of moving to the west coast for deployment to Korea triggered the need.
This queer was an officer in the US Navy, and he doesn’t even know this???

No they are not 'overpasses'. They are
underpasses. And you must dig down to build them. New York is at sea level. How far can you dig before you hit water? Does anyone like driving through a flooded underpass?
By the way New Yorkers rely on the subway far more than they rely on buses. Didn't black man Duke Ellington write Take the 'A' Train about hopping the subway for a trip Harlem, then the preeminent Negro Community in the United States. Duke Ellington did not write "Take the A Bus".
