Add "bottle of antifreeze" to the list of common objects law enforcement officers have mistaken for deadly weapons and then used to justify shooting—and, in this case, killing—an unarmed citizen...
King told local ABC affiliate KATV news that the truck wouldn't properly shift into park, so Brittain went to the back of the truck with a jug of antifreeze to prop behind a truck's tire so that it wouldn't roll backward and strike Davis' vehicle. That's when Davis fired at Brittain, and according to King, Davis didn't tell him to stop or get on the ground. He just shot him.

Don’t you think you should wait for more facts to come out before jumping to the conclusion that the police officer’s actions were illegal? Or unwarranted? How many times do FREEPERS get burned jumping on the anti-cop bandwagon? I’m confident that the Trooper just didn’t decide to execute the kid. It was 3 am and the vehicle was being driven from a body shop. Perhaps the Trooper believed that the car was stolen? And so a guy who runs out of what the trooper believed to be a stolen truck with an object in his hand, running at the Trooper in the dark with shadows, etc. may have prompted the shooting. Let’s wait to find out.
Seriously, you back-seat FREEPERS need to get a grip. The police have tough jobs. How many life and death, split second decisions do you make on your job? I tell my kids that police are JUMPY and therefore do NOT do anything to make a routine car stop into a shooting. Put your hands out of the window (showing your hands is the most important thing to do). Stop the car in a well lit area. Put your flashers on. Don’t do anything to make a cop think you are a danger, especially at 3 am.
Not in rural counties they're not.
“Let more facts come out. First, the stop was at 3 am, for Pete’s sake. It’s dark”
I with you on that, let the facts come out.
Also in the article, the Sheriff supports releasing the body camera footage. Very interested in what the camera shows.
“When did that turn around?”
When they went from Peace Officers to Law Enforcement.
I second the motion.......
Police officers as a whole? Meaning all ranks from Chief down to new hire patrolman? Or just rank and file sheriff deputy? And rural counties pay less that urban areas, and Loneoak is mainly rural.
Where, here's some facts: The kid was unarmed, 17 years old and killed by police.
"Oh, but he moved toward the cop! He had somethiong in his hand! The cop was AFRAID FOR HIS LIFE!"
If he's that afraid, then maybe he should stay home.
OK, then there is some other reason why they seek out the job then. There are so many other jobs that pay more and are much safer and with less paperwork. For the same reasons politicians want to be politicians? They feel a duty to serve their community?
I left out the worst one ever. Guy killed in hotel for no reason. Officer charged and acquitted.

I'm sorry, that is not a straw man argument. It's a false dichotomy.
With all respect, U.S. citizens should not have to teach their kids how to NOT GET SHOT by police. You really do not see anything wrong with this picture or concept?
No it’s not
You jumped on the thread making broad statements defending cops which is your usual bent
I pointed out to you those generalizations work both ways
That is not a straw man.
A straw man is if I pick a fairly easy to demonstrate fact vaguely related which bolsters my argument....my argument being cops do screw up
I simply pointed out the converse and equated it....
Let me think...
At Ruby Ridge the ATF acted inappropriate so all cops suck
That’s straw man and inappropriate
False dichotomy ....no it isn’t...
It’s a paradox sort of ....both sides can be true...
Wow, where did THAT come from? Although I admit I am usually bent.
Let's have a look at my broad statement defending cops:
I will reserve judgment until I have all the facts.
Nah. I really don't see your point. Sorry.
Sorry, but I see something wrong with this picture.
“OK, kids... We live in a free nation, we are presumed innocent until proven guilty, cops are the good guys, now lets go out and get in the car and do our practice drills on how to not get shot by one.”
We are allowed to have opinions here without grand juries
Plus there is the fact sometimes this sort of thing gets covered up by blue wall of silence and lies
Like the Houston wrong address killings last year...of the older white couple
Man there was an avalanche of misinformation and lies
Like the biker massacre in Waco..
Which like the capital shooting 1-6 is still in coverup except all the prosecutions collapsed
Remember all the one million dollar bails,....
Man that all just got thrown out but still no accountability why so many including some unarmed bikers took twenty caliber high velocity lead to the head
Still nothing On that...
They will skate
They killed white people...
I think we have a right to an opinion after both sides have had a chance to present their side of the story. Here it is a little premature. But, as one poster mentioned Ashli Babbit, I think we can form at least preliminary opinions on that since six months have elapsed and the cops have not stepped forward with a contrary account to the rally attendee testimony and camera evidence.
This debate is just going to get bigger and bigger because of these more and more common trigger happy events. And the good cops are going to get the shaft in the end. Until they decide to self police or denounce their own peers it is going to just snowball.
It has now come time for the true good cops to make a hard choice and do the right thing if they truly care about the integrity of the profession.
It is like a quarterback throwing the game. Is this Ok with the team under all circumstances? Looks like right now it is just fine and acceptable in support of the quarterback.
Yet in the end they still lost the game... And that is what is happening right now... They are ALL losing the game not just the quarterback.
With all respect, U.S. citizens should not have to teach their kids how to NOT GET SHOT by police. You really do not see anything wrong with this picture or concept?

Put yourself in the trooper’s shoes. A vehicle is leaving a body shop at 3 am. Hmm...perhaps its a stolen car. That would seem like a reasonable hunch, so he pulls the car over for a traffic violation. Upon pulling the vehicle over, the trooper gets out of his car. To his surprise, the driver of the car (I presume the victim was driving), runs out of his car right at the trooper with an object in his hand. Since its 3 am out, and its difficult to see even with police lights on the scene, the officer thinks, “Gee, I’m about to get killed” and makes a split second decision.
Yes, you should talk with your kids about the police and how to NOT GET SHOT! Respect the police, do what they tell you to do (unless its completely crazy), put your hands out the window or on the steering wheel.
I suggest you contact your local police—not a suburban force that does nothing but give out speeding tickets to white collar residents—but a department that actually deals with criminals. Ask to do a ride-a-long. I did this in Baltimore about 20 years ago and I couldn’t believe what these guys deal with.
That’s ridiculous
You lament freepers jumping to conclusions and then that is precisely what you do
“I’m confident the cop just didn’t decide to execute the kid”
Your words...who’s jumping to conclusions ?
And another thing...it doesn’t matter too much one s intentions ....it’s the act.
Try that in your defense.
I didn’t mean to have that unstamped.....FAL CLASS THREE in my trunk ...
I thought it was ok you know
That will not help you...
Doesn’t matter if he didn’t put on his web gear that night and not think he’d kill some kid..
Fact is he did and from here it looks questionable
Worse is how stupid the sheriff is....incredible
I’m not sure they’ve even suspended the cop
There is background on this
A good kid....good worker trying to fix his truck to help his boss
He’d been in contact with his boss telling him how he was doing. So he could to work or otherwise he’d find a way that morning
This was not some thug
Cop fcuked up
You guys have to understand that happens
I am positive I’ve had more dealing with American law than almost anyone here....mostly feds but local and state too....they all want that money and asset forfeiture
I can say from my experience ....80% are ok....doing their jobs and polite and reasonable
But some are not...some are just plain assholes and huge chip on their shoulders
Feds especially DEA are a bit arrogant....
US Marshalls are top shelf..the best federal law agency hands down....I would swim the River with them....without hesitation
Only group I give questionable rating on for honesty is USA attorneys
Gotta watch them and their flunkies
