A prototype flying car has completed a 35-minute flight between international airports in Nitra and Bratislava, Slovakia. The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel. Its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said it could fly about 1,000km (600 miles), at a height of 8,200ft (2,500m), and had clocked up 40 hours in the air so far. It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft.
'Very pleasant' The narrow wings fold down along the sides of the car. Prof Klein drove it straight off the runway and into town upon arrival, watched by invited reporters. He described the experience, early on Monday morning, as "normal" and "very pleasant". In the air, the vehicle reached a cruising speed of 170km/h. It can carry two people, with a combined weight limit of 200kg (31 stone). But unlike drone-taxi prototypes, it cannot take off and land vertically and requires a runway.
There are high expectations for the nascent market in flying cars, which have long been heralded in popular culture as a visionary landmark of the future.

Isn’t a helicopter a flying car already?
You can drive it down the road, or fly it.
Same with an airplane actually.
That would be only one American.
Those aren’t flying cars. Those are driving aircraft.
It took me about that long to get the roof up on my '66 MGB.
Looks better than the flying Pintos of yore.
200 kg = 440.9 lbs, OR
31 st = 434 lbs therefor
235 lbs + 128 lbs = 363 lbs so the Mrs. and could make a flight
Wait, you say it costs what??????
Maybe I’ll wait for something cheaper...
So you buy a flying car. Where can you “fly” it without lanes, speed limits, passenger limits, tail light codes, decals authorizing HOV authorization? Have fun, this is a Deep State ready to pounce. It will never happen, as long as there are highways.
But, but, climate change, petroleum canceled.
Then what??
I rest my case and my wife’s Pinto has long ago been recycled so I’m open to some improvements in the tech...
FYI history:
DFW Internaltional Airport (Texas y'all) was not always such.
It was originally DFW Airport when it opened.
About 1985, the airport in Eastland (Texas y'all) declared themselves as a International Airport and put signage out on IH-20 to note such as the only International Airport for that region of Texas.
Law suite...then Eastland dropped the International designation and thus forward, DFW Airport became DFW International Airport.
*Now,you know.
“Then what??”
Massive Chinese Batteries.
I’ll wait forthe George Jetson model that folds up into a briefcase.
Once in awhile I have “flying dreams,” like Superman. Except I have to go to an airport to take off.
It can carry two people, with a combined weight limit of 200kg (31 stone) …31 stone = 434 lbs. 200 kg ≈ 441 lbs.
“Once in awhile I have “flying dreams,” like Superman. Except I have to go to an airport to take off.”
my favorite dreams: flying dreams, but with me, the issue is continuous dodging high tension power lines ... obvious symbolism i suppose given that i’m a peasant ...
