Texas father shoots alleged 'peeping Tom' outside little girl's window [video]

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A father shot a man who he claimed was looking into his child's window in northwest Harris County late Sunday night.

According to Harris County sheriff's deputies, a husband and wife confronted an intoxicated man inappropriately touching himself outside their young daughter's window around 10 p.m. Sunday.

The little girl reportedly screamed when she saw the man, and her parents came running.

The parents, both armed with handguns, went outside and attempted to detain the man, according to deputies. Officials noted that both the man and the woman are licensed handgun carriers.

According to the father, both he and the mother demanded the alleged peeping Tom lie down in the yard and wait for police to arrive. The man did not comply and walked across the street to a Valero gas station.

The armed couple followed the man to the Valero gas station. Deputies say the wife held the man outside the gas station while the husband went inside and asked the clerk to call 911.

That's when the man wrestled the handgun out of the wife's hands and pointed it at her, deputies said.

"It was just natural instinct," said the mom. The video above is proof not to underestimate a mom!

In fear that the man was going to start shooting, the dad fired his weapon, shooting the man three times, deputies said.

However, when our sister station ABC13 spoke to the father, he said he believed he shot the man four times; twice in the chest, once in the stomach and once in the side.(snip)

The father said his daughter had complained in the past about seeing someone watching her through the window, but the parents didn't believe her.

Isn't Harris County a liberal enclave?

Kudos for the dad for shooting at body mass.

But I would suggest a review of his firearms caliber and bullet weight.

She's lucky her husband was there and armed, otherwise she would have been killed.

“...I wonder which statistic this is going to be in, crime prevention or gun violence?..”

As always, it’s gonna depend on the race/color of those involved.
Then again, in this day and age, it may be considered as another COVID fatality. /s

I recommend this book.

I sure as hell hope they have insurance to cover their legal costs. Also, this probably will result in bad consequences for the couple. The standard an armed civilian is higher than for a uniformed law enforcement officer. (At least it seems that way.)

He should have practiced the three S's.

In his yard, OK. But at a gas station?

I think it would be a great option to have the wife’s gun unloaded and let the perp force it away to “use” on the others, just to be able to shoot the man in self-defense.

Yup. Sadly, they will pay a heavy price for this.

Personally, I favor extremely liberal laws on self-defense and trespassing. If I were on a jury, I would give enormous weight to the homeowner on his own property. Very unlikely I would vote to convict under any circumstances.

The problem they’re going to have is that they pursued him. I’m not talking about what’s right, I’m talking about what’s the law. This may be a tangled legal mess.

“... but the parents didn’t believe her....”

I am thankful that the little girl is unharmed. I just wish that these parents and parents like them would stop for one minute and actually listen to their kids. How many times have we read a child was taken out of a home in the middle of the night or abducted from the front yard? Hopefully the parents may have learned something over this incident. I know that my reaction may be seen as a weird one to take from this article but that one sentence really bothered me.

My husband taught self-defense - for women in particular.

He said the most difficult thing for women is to pull the trigger when they need to pull the trigger - they tend to hold back - and if they do, the assailant is going to take the gun away from them, as in this case. Stopping that hesitation is almost impossible to teach.

I would have pulled the trigger, no doubt, no hesitation.

Protecting my children - with deadly force- is always foremost in my mind. I’d do the same for my animals.
