The bipartisan infrastructure agreement reached last week will get rid of all of the country's lead pines and service lines, according to a new White House memo, but it's not clear how long it will take.
The memo, from National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and senior adviser Anita Dunn, says the bipartisan framework "will replace 100 percent of the nation's lead pipes and service lines."
White House press secretary Jen Psaki also told reporters on Monday that "it will put Americans to work replacing 100 percent of our nation's lead water pipes" but wouldn't give a time period when asked how long it would take.
"The details are very important here. It needs to all be written into the final legislation of the bill, but the president is clearly eager to get that done as quickly as possible," she said when asked about timing.
Exposing children to lead can damage their brains and nervous systems.
Overall, the package will put $55 billion toward "water infrastructure," which will include replacing lead service lines.
This figure and others were initially announced last week as part of the $579 billion in new spending for infrastructure.

Two words: Flint, Michigan.
7-year-old shot, in critical condition on South Salina Street in Syracuse
Thanks! Deep State’s solution to this involves more public sector jobs will cost the moon and take an exponentially long time to fix.
And the last time I looked, my water and sewer lines, I have both, are my problem, not my fellow taxpayers’.
But if people need help paying for expensive plumbing repairs, where has Deep State been all these years, eh?
Speaking of Syracuse, well lookee here. Guess who’s already got a program. But it’s not free (snort), is it...

It’ll put PUBLIC SECTOR workers to work.
Not a chance. Older cities sometimes still have wood pipes in a few places. They’ve lost the maps and have no idea where their pipes are even located. I’ve seen that in a 50 year old community. 150 year old towns my have no clue where every single pipe is located.
Exactly correct. It wasn’t Flint that went cheap. It was the Democrats who ran Flint that went cheap then blamed Republicans.
Some iron water piping had a low percentage of lead in the alloy. As long as the Ph of the water is maintained in a non-corrosive range, no leaching of lead into the water will occur.
Flint went cheap with the buffering compounds, allowing the water acid/alkali balance to deviate from safe levels.
Out of 55 billion 1 million will go to dig up some old pipe going to Obama’s HQ in DC.
