Ventana Big Sur set a record for the highest per-room sale price when it sold to Hyatt Hotel Group.
The $148 million sale comes out to $2.5 million per room, beating the record set in April in Sonoma when Montage Healdsburg sold for $2.04 million.
The hotel is located on a 162-acre property in Big Sur and has 59 rooms, 15 cabins and 63 camping sites.
According to SFGate, Ventana Big Sur rooms start at $2,000 a night.
I see nightly rates to rising in the near future.
the end of an era
My favorite hotel of all time anywhere on the planet.
Hope they don’t break it.
For those who haven’t been to Big Sur...one of the most beautiful places on earth. Worth the drive up the Pacific Coast Highway—old 101.
The “per room” record is kind of meaningless when you’re talking about the inclusion of a 162 acre parcel. I mean, suppose you had a 6 room hotel on an even bigger parcel, you might come up with an even crazier “per room” rate.
I assume that they’ll leave the light on for you.

The only problem is that it is in California. 8-) Liberals ruin everything.
I have driven the PCH quite a few times and it is one of the prettiest places on earth. SanFrancisco used to be my favorite city. I am glad I got to see it before the locusts ruined it.
Nepenthe, 1969. Esalen, hot tubs. Good times.
