It could be fully-auto. Or, it could be an AR variant with a failing disconnector in the trigger assembly. The reason I'm a little skeptical it's full auto is the shooter doesn't look like the type who's smart enough/proficient enough to have presence of mind to change the selector in the middle of a firefight in Chicago. But, I guess anything is possible.

Makes me smell a rat. Any use of full-auto weapons is extremely rare. If this wasn’t a malfunction, where did the perp get the weapon? It’s possible it was stolen from a military shipment through Chicago. But given the push for gun control and “assault weapon” bans, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were supplied to a gang-banger by the FBI/ATF/NKVD to push the Commie political agenda.

I'm sorry, but if I was behind a car with two jamokes who just fired automatic weapons, even simulated automatic weapons, the last thing I would do is follow them.

I think the clip was most likely staged, the sound may even have been dubbed in later. It is also possible that the weapons are stolen military weapons, or (worse but sadly possible) supplied by government agents-provocateurs.
