A man who boosted his Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine with a shot from Moderna said his side effects were a 'little more severe' the third time round

Hyser is one of the first Americans to participate in a groundbreaking COVID-19 mix-and-match study, aimed at assessing whether boosters work, and whether different COVID-19 shots are safe — and possibly more effective — when they're mixed together.

For now, the study is boosting only with a single dose of Moderna's vaccine, whether participants' first shots were from Moderna, or from Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson — the other two US-authorized vaccines. Other combinations of the vaccines, and which order they're taken in, will be added in to the study later on.

Study participants will get routine blood draws (Hyser already had his first), and initial results could be ready within months.

A big question this study will explore is whether boosting people who've had J&J's one-shot adenovirus vaccine with Moderna's mRNA shot might make the performance similar.

While Hyser's Moderna side effects were a little more intense, he said they faded with some ibuprofen and a day of rest.

"I did, for Pfizer, have a little bit of chills, a little bit of muscle ache, but nothing that prevented me from conducting my normal day to day activities," he said, remembering how the day after his second shot in January he did some work, went grocery shopping, and made a pot of chili.

"With the booster, it was a little bit more severe," he said, describing waking up the day afterwards feeling "like I had done a very rigorous gym workout," with chills and arm soreness like he'd gotten a "hard punch in the shoulder." He popped some ibuprofen, which helped ease the aches, and by the following day, he felt like himself again

This movie reference is just as accurate as the rest of your posts.

Armageddon didn't have aliens. It had a meteor. The people welcoming the aliens were in New York in the movie Independence Day.

In the movie I think they were welcoming them in Los Angeles, what with all the New Age wakadoodles there (many of whom, in reality, are very anti-vaxx and buy into a lot of the conspiratorial nonsense.)

A sore arm and a bit of fatigue sounds pretty much like the average Moderna vaccine recipient's experience...not sure I'd even classify them as side effects.

In my very large family (ages 20 to 101 y/o) almost everyone who has had the Moderna vaccine has said they felt like they had the flu for about 24 hours after the 2nd dose. For those who had the Pfizer vaccine, side effects were pretty much just a little pain at the injection site. 101 y/o grandma was very nervous about getting vaccinated, but her MD son-in-law convinced her to get it. She got Pfizer and had no side effects other than pain at the injection site.

This is not Hyser’s first vaccine trial, he’s been in studies of smallpox shots, anthrax vaccines, and annual flu jabs.

“I’m a dyed in the wool nerd, so I mean, of course I think that this is interesting,” he said of the trial. “I like being involved in being a part of producing science and information for the world.”

Just damn! Quite a different definition of ‘nerd’ than I’ve heard before. The nerds I know did their homework, and all said “no thanks!” to the coof jabs.

Says he “popped some ibuprofen” for the aches. Sounds like a pill junkie, to me. I can’t even take that stuff. And for $600? Sorry, but they couldn’t pay me enough money to do even one coof jab.

Get back to us in 3 months.

Also, I imagine that genetics and health plays a part in who gets sick from the shot.

I know people in their 90s who got covid and lived.

I don't plan on taking the shots, but believe in protecting my self with known prophylactics.

I read the details on the 1976 swine flu vaccine campaign and also on the original polio vaccine campaign in use before we switched to the Sabin vaccine.

Thus similar to your 'very liberal enclave outside Houston', n'est-ce pas? So you would know...

"are very anti-vaxx and buy into a lot of the conspiratorial nonsense."

This is an unintentionally hilarious insult to try to pass off in a thread about a pro-vaxx wakadoodle professional vaccine taker ... You know if you like vaccines so much, why not add some J&J or Sinovax to your Moderna lofl ...

My father (82) and grandmother (101) were vaccinated back in February, so almost 5 months ago. Both are doing fine.

I’m not aware of any liberal enclaves outside of Houston. I don’t think there are many new agers in Houston, at least not compared to California.

It’s not the elderly that have issues with vaccines. It’s the younger — and they are not as high risk for the severe ramifications of actual Covid, and the shots are becoming mandatory for college students and below. The regimens need to be adjusted accordingly. The dosage is too much for them.

That seems reasonable. I recall seeing an article in the last day or so discussing the possibility that younger people only needed one dose or something. I’ll have to look into that.

In my family (sibling’s children) we’ve had 8 people between 20 and 30 get vaccinated. None of them have had any problems. One was vaccinated several months ago due to a risk factor (chunkiness), and has had no problems.

Yes I understand. But please be mindful that the Darwinistic “well my family survived” (and majority do indeed do just fine with the vaccines) can be used to justify turning a blind eye to gross abuses of power and lack of transparency on the part of our health authorities. There needs to be transparency: it doesn’t matter how “rare” the problems are.

Your probably right but the dosage seems to be kept high to make truly sterilizing AB's to develop as the majority of the AB's are non-sterilizing and potentiate bad outcomes.

Actually children should not be getting this at all and whoever tries to require it should be imprisoned or hung.
