I received a log periodic antenna designed by ham radio operator WA5VJB from Kent Electronics. They are rated from 2 to 11 GHz, so this model will cover several of the ham bands. These antennas are made on PCB's and are ideal for use in the amateur microwave bands as compromise dish feeds. In this video I do a test of such a feed versus my patch antenna on the 3.4 GHz band.

I mounted one in place of the original dipole feed on a 2.4 GHz (13cm) gridpack at the same focal point. Whilst gain will be down a bit on 3.4 GHz (9cm) results were surprisingly good, although smoke started to come off the PCB at a power level of 20W FM! In this video I have a contact with VK7ZBX whilst portable. Again this was a non line of sight contact.

In other words, the smoke test at least partially failed😁

All I’m getting is “6EQUJ5.”
Sorry to go off topic, but anyone got any ideas how to configure a cell phone signal booster? Before I go climbing up the pitch of the roof and running cables, or hiring a contractor to do it, I bought one and stuck it in the most elevated window of the house. Boosted everything to max (tried various setting). Spread the distance between the receiver, the power box, and the signal repeater.
If I am lucky on a cloudy day or at night, I get 1 bar. Otherwise, virtually no cell service. I miss a lot of calls and texts. Once I got 26 texts all come in at once, I guess the phone was waiting for a signal and then dumped them on me.
Silly thing is if I walk 3 houses down I get 3 bars. So I figure I either gotta mount it somewhere else (and higher) or get the right settings. It’s rather silly but seems the 3 houses are a dead zone but the rest of the neighborhood gets decent service. Down the hill I get 5G. And I switched from ATT to Verizon but didn’t make a difference (they probably use the same cell towers anyway).
I worked so had at code to get an Extra class ticket and when the no coders came along I simply lost interest. Video’s like this peak my interest and tells me how much I miss it
At least the smoke shows the weak point.
Thanks
