Former Chicago Cubs star Ben Zobrist filed a lawsuit last month alleging that his former minister had a sexual relationship with his wife and defrauded his charity foundation, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Zobrist is seeking $6 million in damages in the lawsuit against Byron Yawn, his former pastor and current CEO of a Nashville-area counseling firm. It was filed last month in Nashville Circuit Court.
Zobrist and his wife, Julianna, started attending the Community Bible Church in 2005. Yawn, the senior pastor at that church, started serving as the couple’s pre-marital counselor that year, per the report. Yawn is no longer associated with the church.
Zobrist repeatedly sought counseling from Yawn in the years that followed, including when he was experiencing anxiety and depression in 2016, the lawsuit said. Yawn also officiated the public dedication of their three infant children.
In 2018, per the report, Yawn started having daily conversations with Julianna and “began secretly pursuing an intimate relationship” with her a month later. By the following spring, Zobrist alleges, Yawn regularly started “meeting her for sex”.
Zobrist said that while Yawn was still serving as their counselor, he kept having his relationship with Julianna and the two started using “burner phones” to keep it secret.
Ben and Julianna filed for divorce in 2019. He missed significant time with the Cubs that season, and lost about $8 million in income while trying to fix his marriage, per the report. Julianna admitted to the relationship with Yawn last summer, according to the lawsuit.
While he was allegedly sleeping with Julianna, Yawn was also working for Zobrist’s charity and making $36,000 annually for doing so. Zobrist was also paying $10,000 a month to Yawn’s church and once paid between $10,000-$15,000 to fund a “pastoral trip” for Yawn’s family.

She was in her mid-30’s when this all happened. That’s when women are at their horniest. Knock-out looks only prove this world is made up with haves and have-nots. How can our culture deny what’s available to her? He sounds deeply religious and would have been much happier with a short, chunky, motherly type wife. Build that picket white fence for all the neighbors to see. At least he ain’t queer.
Looks like this chick digs the long ball.
That happened to a co-worker of mine. Co-worker and his wife were getting marital counseling with their pastor, while the whole time the pastor was boinking his wife.
It’s always nice to see something like that backfire in a spectacular way.
Another example of why get married?
Look at the crap brought into his life by her.
Hes a top tier highly paid athlete and the snank still cheats on him.
Bet she only misses the money. Of wait se probably had gynocentric family court steal half his stuff away from him to give to the little cheater.
Family court proves cheaters actually prosper, but only if you are a woman.
"I don't mind losing the money, it's losing all the stuff."
He has my respect in that when his marriage fell apart he left baseball that season in order to be a father and guardian to his three young children while his wife was off the rails. He clearly had plenty of money for full-time nannies etc. to watch the kids but decided to make his kids and his relationship with them the priority.
There is a special place in he!! For people that behave like that pastor.
He will be held to a higher standard on Judgment Day.
Agree.
It is still a big mess.
I wish him and his kids all the best.
Over 20 years ago, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Principle of the Christian school that used the same facilities were caught having an affair. The y both resigned, got divorces, and then married.
I had reason to have lunch with the Senior Pastor a few years later. During our meeting, I asked the Pastor about the situation. To my great surprise, he replied, “If people knew just what a controlling, critical woman his ex-wife was, they wouldn’t be so quick to judge him.”
I kind of figured out that she must have been a bitch to live with; I just didn’t expect the Pastor to say it
He was a player for the Tampa Bay Rays...
Good point.
What I found interesting was people’s reaction to the whole affair. I can remember a time when people would have been shocked at the Priest’s betrayal. But what I found instead was relief that Father was doing an actual adult female rather than another man or a minor.
Crazy times we live in.
Zobrist wasn’t a particularly great player. HOWEVER, he has the distinction of hitting the go ahead run that broke the Chicago Cubs 108-year World Series drought. For that he will always be a star in the hearts of Cubs fans.
Too bad his wife isn’t a Cubs fan 🥵
Derek Jeter knew what he was doing when he didn’t have a serious relationship while he was playing for the Yankees. He focused on his job and “played the field” with the dames. Now that he’s retired, he was able to get married and raise a family. Wise of him.
She wasn't off the rails, she's a whore. She's responsible for what she did. Sorry to pick on you to illustrate a point. I've been reading multiple threads about this situation and a common theme is that she was taken advantage of by this pastor. No doubt the guy is a scumbag, but SHE was the one cheating on her husband. There seems to be a common theme where people want to give a woman a pass for cheating for multiple reasons ranging from "she was depressed" to "she's at her age where she's her horniest". None of that matters, she took the vows and she's a cheating whore, that's it. And to top it off she styles herself as a Christian singer. She's every bit as bad as the so called pastor, worse in my opinion.
Sometimes I think the muslims have it right in the way they deal with cheating wives.
I still remember the headline going into the 2016 Series … “Trump has better chance of winning than the Cubs “ … Lol !
They both had vows with their spouses, but the minister had yet another layer of responsibility of care on behalf of his role in the church.
Strictly, she was the one who broke the most critical relationship.
We all must honor our vows, first.
